Hi,
I TNR in my yard (have two feeders on my block) and have been for about 4 years now. One was a stray and I ended up taking him in recently (3 months ago). He was in the room for about 2 months due to a parasite that had a three week waiting period to clear up.
I have two rescues, a 4 year old (Jack) and 4 1/2 (Dan) year old - both males. During the time Bunny (new cat) was in the room, Dan visited his room and spent time, where Jack had no interest. When released, Jack is not aggressive, but defensive if Bunny get's too close. At first he growled all the time and sometimes howled. Now it's been another month and it's better. I feel bad though because Jack doesn't do the things he used to do as he's skittish around Bunny. Bunny is younger, but larger and is not aggressive, but charges at him to play (run) as he does with Dan. Dan is a stronger cat and actually the alpha. I'm happy he's the alpha because he keeps Bunny in line and he's a gentle cat as well.
I read all the articles on introductions, and I even put bunny in his room at night so Jack can sleep with me (Bunny jumps on the bed so he leaves). It is progressing, but I would like opinions on the progression and how long about? I'm so stressed about this. Will Jack eventually like him? They can stay in the same room together with no issues, it's just that Jack avoids him whenever possible.
My daughter's cats come often to their old home to visit and all four cats always got along well. Now her male is intimidating towards Bunny. He doesn't attack, just sits and runs after him occasionally to where Bunny hides.
sigh. I was thinking of giving him up for adoption (he's an adult though), but I want to keep him - he' s sweet. All opinions welcome.
