Hi all!

My first post here.

I had trapped, spayed/neutered and had dewormed a mama and her babies that were dumped in a field. All have homes and I kept my little guy that I named "Beanie."

He was dewormed at the Vet when he got his neuter, and just this morning (now) I discovered a live worm on him. It appears to be a roundworm and is very sticky.

Before I can get him in to the Vet, I want to get him some OTC medicine this morning.

I'd love to know the best over the counter roundworm medicine you all have used.
(From fostering for the kill shelter, I know it is not a tapeworm or a hookworm).

ANY knowledge on the best OTC Roundworm medication would be appreciated. Plan to leave for the medicine in about an hour (7:30 - California time).

I have never had to deal with any worms but tapeworms on foster kitties, so would love to know how soon after I give him the worm medication should I change out the litter boxes? I have 2 other precious cats and don't want them to get these worms.

Thanks for having me here on your site! <3

You should give a second dose of whatever the vet gave. You normally have to treat 2 or 3 times for worms, two weeks apart.

How long has it been since he was wormed? Wormer is fairly safe, but you still don't want to give doses too close together. If he was just recently wormed, then shedding the (hopefully) dead worms is a good result that the wormer was effective.

I think it's all right to use an OTC wormer, but I would check with your vet for the appropriate schedule for kitten worming.

You want to clean the litter box frequently, worms or no worms. It might be a good idea to give your other cats a wormer at the same time as the kitten to keep them clear.

Thank you both so very much! Beanie was wormed 2 weeks ago.
Hopefully I get the OTC Roundworm medication that works the best.

Off I go . . . Thank you again.

Oh, I clean the boxes multiple times per day. I meant fully change the litter, i.e., bleach clean and brand new litter which I usually do every 2 weeks to a month.

That's a good schedule. I would just give the other cats a wormer when the kitten is on his last round of wormer, then everyone is all clear.

Thanks you guys! I gave Beanie and the other two the wormer medication (specific to Roundworm) yesterday; bleach cleaned the litter boxes, washed ALL of the blankets and comforter, vacuumed a couple of times and so far so good! :-)
