At 10 p.m. last night, my dad's cat (maybe 5 years old) suddenly started wobbling and acting "drunk" & looking sad. He has been very healthy up until that point. He eats & drinks normally & has used the litterbox since it happened. His back legs seem really weak & he's being very clingy. My dad took him to the vet today & did the blood count, Chem panels, & fiv/felv & the only problem they saw was a low white blood cell count. There are currently residents where they live that take medication so the vet thinks he might have gotten into it. They just told my dad to monitor kitty. Has anyone had a similar experience??? Maybe any recommendations for any tests they should run if this doesn't go away? Any way to comfort him???

I'm confused, your other post said today's blood work was fine except for having to retest the FELV/FIV in three months.

Did this happen shortly after you got back from the vet?  (the posts are only 2 hours apart).

Did the vet check his thyroid nodules?  Blood glucose ok? (next time, check blood AND urine glucose to rule out diabetes).  I'm really concerned about the symptoms you describe and if this is the same vet visit, why the vet wasn't concerned!  Also, I don't know the dynamics of his environment, but can you tell people to keep human meds locked up and away from Asti?

I'm unsure if they checked his thyroid or glucose levels. I know for sure that they did a cbc & Chem panel. The vet saw him wobble when he walked. He still had a lot of fight in him when he was getting his blood drawn though. & some of the residents are children so they might have dropped something by accident.

Well, it could have been a toxin or chemical ingestion, if a urinalysis was done, sometimes you can see right away the effects of a toxin.  The low WBC may indicate a viral or bacterial infection that he is trying to fight or one that is developing, and I would recommend a recheck on the CBC in 1 week or sooner if he is continuing to not do well.  Also, if it comes to it, an xray to check heart, kidneys, etc.

If he's eating and drinking well, that would be good, but if the weakness persists beyond another day or two or any other symptoms develop, back to the vet right away for additional diagnostics (xray, urinalysis, potential immunology profile).
