My cat has super soft hair but it keeps getting big knots or hair clumps that are so close to the skin that I can't comb it out. Is there anything I can use to help get them out or do it have to shave him in those spots?

If they mats are very close to the skin you may have to take him to a groomer and have him shaved . Those mats can get very tight and tear his skin ..  You could have the groomer shave him into a lion cut and start over from there .  I had a Ragdoll cat years ago but sadly he passed away due to cancer .  I had to brush him every single day to prevent mats .

Yeah. It's hot right now and he is getting them fairly quickly. He likes to eat the brush tho so it's hard to groom him. Lol

Yeah , so you may be better off having him shaved and then you could start off slowly getting him used to brushing . Get a few different style brushes and see which one works best ..
