    Reusable cat litter?

Kind of! But ideally something where the pellets never need to be replaced and would instead be washed, something like the Cat Genie plasticky granules. Which is where I think the odour would come in... if the pellets are not not absorbent, then there's no real mechanism to neutralize the smell...

    Elevated & Tilted bowls

I use these: Whisker City® Elevated Ceramic Cat Bowl | cat Elevated Stands | PetSmart Mainly because they were cheap and available, and they ticked all the boxes - shallow, tilted, and elevated. I got them for my arthritic old cat. I like them fine, but the capacity is very small. I have to...

    Reusable cat litter?

Outside of the CatGenie (which I can't do in my apartment), are there any options for a reusable cat litter? Or has anyone attempted a DIY for this? I get the most eco-friendly litter I can and it works great but it's expensive and not sold in that many places, it's a hassle. I'm picturing...

    Proper carrier sizing

Yeah, I've always thought the plastic ones were safer than the soft ones. In the end, I did end up getting two soft carriers; if I were doing a drive or flight I would go with hard, but I only use them when walking my cats to the vet. It's a short walk (long enough to struggle with the weight...

Keeping a geriatric kitty warm and cozy safely during the day

Depending on where he likes to sleep and if there’s something above it, radiant heat panel (mounted above his bed) plus thermostat. This the only way I have been able to generate heat without being paranoid about fire risk.

    Proper carrier sizing

I’ve researched this and have found so much conflicting information… I’m looking to get new carriers for my cats and I can’t figure out the right size. I’ve read that it should be 1.5 the length from shoulder to butt. Or from nose to butt. Or those measurement “plus 3-4 inches.” Or big enough...

Old Cat Weakness in Hind Legs

She found some pep tonight and made it four floors down to the basement where she explored and ate cobwebs for a while. She managed a few stairs back up but I carried her for the rest. She really seems to do better on flooring with better traction like the concrete basement floor.

Old Cat Weakness in Hind Legs

Thank you, this was immensely helpful! I have found that my vet is not as forthcoming with old age solutions as I’d like. Even the solensia -she only told me about a few months ago! The emergency vet was the same and pushed euthanasia but agreed to “cut the cord and pray”. I thought she was...

Old Cat Weakness in Hind Legs

My cat has been on a steady decline over the past year or so (understandable as she is 19 years old or more). Her hind leg weakness is starting to affect her quite a bit now. I am going to bring her in to the vet for a dedicated appointment for this, but I would also love to know if anyone has...

    Old cat grooming tips?

Yeah I found the vinegar recommendation to be odd, so I used so little that I could not smell it. Leave-in shampoos is interesting! I’ll take a look at those. I’m sure wipes are miraculous but I’m hoping for a DIY solution to avoid the waste - still, I may cave and get some for an occasional...

    Old cat grooming tips?

Hi folks! My ancient kitty is starting to get a little smelly; it’s clear her grooming has declined in her advanced age, though she’s still doing some and keeps her bum clean - she just smells like “old cat.” I’m hoping for some good tips on cleaning her efficiently, as she hates being touched...

    Is Senior Food Important?

Well the reticence with the treats is she eats too many of them, she's not going to be hungry for dinner, and then won't get the water from her sloppy wet food :) It's a balancing act eh! On the plus side, she just had bloodwork done and everything is perfect. My vet is proposing we try...

Can sediment in urine be visible to the naked eye?

Yeah maybe! It really looked like it was contained to the pee clump and had sunk to the bottom. Well, a mystery for the ages and in any event he's fine now!

Any idea what it might have been? Never seen anything like it before!

    Is Senior Food Important?

Doesn't the medical treatment resolve the weight loss issue? I ask because I have a senior hyperthyroid cat - she is definitely on her last legs (due to age, not thyroid) and has lost muscle mass and weight. She's not skeletal but definitely a little boney. I asked my vet about it and they...
