His cat condo is right by the patio doors. I moved it awhile back so he could look outside. I've only had him out on the balcony a couple of times and so far he hasn't tried to climb. I'm on the 2nd floor too. I will try moving it over the area he is scratching and get some cheap scratching...

I did buy a door mat that is kind of rough but didn't think to put some catnip on it. I did buy some spray at walmart to put on the carpet and my ottoman that he scratches the corners of. I may get a carboard one and put it over where he's been scratching. Maybe all that will help?

I have these two scratch posts Samson uses - one is his kitty condo, the other is a stand alone one.

I do have a scratching post near my TV and a big kitty condo with 3 scratching posts on it as well. He uses them some but not all the time.
