Well, as an update: The scabs appear to be gone now. There is an indentation into each lip, and the fur is still a little discoloured from the small amount of blood I imagine.

I noticed the first bits of this several weeks ago, BUT, it was nothing like this bad. His lips appeared to be a bit red directly under the teeth, but there was no change and no apparent discomfort up until a few days ago.
