Hi - I just want to let everyone know that after being unable to find anything wrong at all, the vet suggested we try low-allergen prescription cat food. After a week on the new food, Owen is doing great! His vomiting has completely stopped.
Thanks everyone for the advice!
After my latest round spending $350 at the vet trying to figure out why my oldest cat was vomiting 4-5 times a day, I finally got pet insurance for my younger one (the older has a pre-existing diagnosis now, of IBS, and it would be too expensive to get it for him). It's worth it. Mine covers...
I just want to say that I know just how you feel, Jenk. I lost a cat to FIP and was a mess for months, afraid that my other kitty would get it. My vet did a ton of tests and he came back clean on everything; it's been almost two years and he has no signs of FIP whatsoever. We have another cat...
Unfortunately, NOTHING seems to be helping. He had an x-ray yesterday which was normal.
The vet said we can either get an endoscopy with biopsies of the stomach and small intestine, or we can try non-allergenic prescription food for a couple of months and see how he does. I opted for the...
Aw, look at the bad boy! I had to tell my vet the lizard story.
Owen's bloodwork is fine, but he's still puking. He was very lethargic when I got home from work - I think he's stopped eating. I gave him some canned food and he's kept it down almost an hour, so I guess we'll see. My main...
Holy cow, yayi! An entire LIZARD?
The vet is running bloodwork today and told me to give him 1/4 of a Pepcid in the meantime to see if it helps - he might just have some kind of minor gastritis. She also wanted to do an x-ray to check for foreign bodies, but because of the cost I said I'd...
Thanks for the information.
He went through a bout of irritable bowel for a few months last year. We ran thousands of dollars in tests and the vet couldn't find anything wrong, so he was on steroids for a couple of months before it finally went away. I'm wondering if he just has a sensitive...
My Owen is a big long-haired cat who has routinely vomited up hairballs once a week or so for his entire 7 years. I know that's basically normal and it doesn't worry me.
Over the last week or so, however, he's been vomiting every day, sometimes more than once, and none of it has been a...
Thank you so much! I suspected they were just getting better quality nutrients and weren't as hungry, but it's hard to say since my older cat is so picky about things. Mine are hearty eaters, too: one weighs 15 pounds (but is big-framed so it's not as bad as it sounds) and I have a 10-month...
I have always fed my kitties Meow Mix. I know I am a bad mommy in that respect, but my parents always fed it to their cats and they turned out fine. Anyway, my 6-year-old has recently developed Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and based on that and my increasing guilt about feeding them cheap food...
Thank you for the information! I think I will schedule an appointment for his initial cleaning.
I'm having nightmares picturing us trying to brush his teeth, though! He is a big, strong cat!
Do you take your cat to the vet for regular dental care?
The last few times I've taken my 6-year-old kitty in for shots or regular visits, the vet mentions that we need to have his teeth cleaned. There have been cats in my family for my entire life, and growing up I have no recollection...
It seems like the cost of individual items is the same - I guess my question is more like, "Do we really need all this stuff?"
I got a general exam, 6-month supply of Revolution, 4 vaccinations, an ELISA FIV test, an antibiotic shot, an anti-inflammatory shot, and a 10-day round of antibiotics...
vikki, that's the thing - he's a great vet! He seems very knowledgeable and is very kind to my cats. It just seems like I've given him a lot of money over the last two years. I'm in Los Angeles, too, which may make a difference, since the last time I paid a vet I lived in Missouri! Thanks for...
