Its is trial and error I'm afraid, Summercats! Pretty cat :).
p.s. I have read too much fish is not a good idea for cats - as it has a very powerful taste that cats can develop a taste for - in the 'wild' cats are more likely to eat small rodents and birds etc which have blander flavours.
Hi Summercats,
I was the original poster. I am still experimenting to be honest and my cat is about a year old now!
I also used and still use Zooplus, though you can get some of the brands they sell from local supermarkets and pet food shops.
I give my cat some raw chicken strips some days...
And this has been my experience too Saf ... about trying so many foods that were meant to be "quality" and getting nowhere fast. Thank you for taking the time to give a lengthy reply which helps put your experience and recommendation in context.
Hey Saf, thanks for that added recommendation. I Really will try NaturalInstinct now. Its really kind of you to offer to pay £ to charity if he doesn't like it, but I've spent £££ so whats the difference?! I know what you mean about the dry food - I have often thought its the satisfying "bone...
Thank you Saf, I'll look into that. At the moment my cat gets a mixture of food -
- some raw chicken bits fed by hand (!)
- some commercial cat food i.e. Felix he quite likes
- Legend Almo Nature which I believe is high meat quality cat food (which I get from Zooplus) which he loves
- plus...
Living a long time is not the measure of a life. "Enriching" them with "toys" (they are not children) is not a substitute for real grass, fresh air, freedom of movement and ability to use their natural instincts. Cats are animals, not party children waiting to be "entertained". I know lots...
I don't profess to know the answer and although I think Anne offers some good advice, I think its cruel to keep cats indoors. could you ask the neighbour to keep his/her dog away from your yard? after all, it is not their dog's territory.
Its difficult though, as cats don't like change generally, do they? My kitten/cat would only eat Felix, even though I tried lots of more meat based and expensive wet cat foods. At the moment I am trying to get her away from Felix ... but with limited success!
My cat is now 9 months old.
When he was about 4 months old I got an automatic feeder for the morning - as I have health issues and need my sleep and don't want to get into bad habit of being woken early by him demanding breakfast!
However, I notice he will sometimes not actually eat his wet...
Cats reall, really hate moving. USually people are advised to keep their cats indoors for at least a month until they get used to their new home. Inevitably some cats will get easily scared in their new environment. I am sure your cat will feel more comfortable in time. Perhaps you should...
Understood! Kibble means kinda dry food then. Yes, we have that, Kitty eats a bit of it most days, Applaws dry etc., but prefers wet mostly.
Thank you for your nice pictures LST3 !
Very interesting to hear of your experience with different foods Columbine and sorry to hear about your...
Its a tricky one, Columbine.
It sounds wonderful in theory, and I kinda "believe in it" IFKWIM. Raw food diet makes alot of sense.
However I have some health problems which limit my energy (ME/CFS) and live in a very small space (typical UK). Its not like I have a bit outstore where I can...
I will definitely try that. Also the transitioning ideas interesting. At the moment kitty just eats Felix.
Have you personally noticed benefits in giving more raw food to your cat(s) Columbine?
