    Unprovoked Aggression In New Cat

The problem is that when I let them mingle, things will be going great and then out of nowhere, the wild, actual fights happen. But it makes sense that maybe we let him run out all his energy and THEN let them mingle.

    Unprovoked Aggression In New Cat

I agree that he's probably trying to play, but he's scaring the other cats. They are always looking over their shoulders. But perhaps giving him free run of the apartment is a good idea. I'll try that out.

    Unprovoked Aggression In New Cat

The fur flies and there's yowling. When my other cats play fight, it's usually pretty silent and they don't take chunks of fur out of each other. I do sometimes wonder if it's Mr. Jenkins just having a lot of energy he's not sure what to do with? He was crated at the shelter and now he's mostly...

    Unprovoked Aggression In New Cat

One of my new cats, Mr. Jenkins, is super chill around humans. He is slowly learning to accept his new brothers, but every once and a while, his tail starts going wild and he pounces. We're always there to throw a blanket or a pillow into the situation and get the cats apart, but the other cats...

    Strange Cat Introduction

I'll be honest with you, after this whole scenario, my partner and I have more or less decided that if we do get a dog, we'll go to a breeder. It sucks because you really want to feel good about 'adopt don't shop', but I've heard from other people that lots of shelters are sketchy about this...

    Strange Cat Introduction

That happened with one of the dogs recently. It was returned after killing the family cat, but it's back on the website as a great family dog. The dog I tried to adopt recently was given to me with the understanding that it lived with a cat and had experience meeting kittens. Not so: the dog had...

    Strange Cat Introduction

Today, I made a stink to the Assistant Director of the shelter about the whole thing. Explained the situation, told him about the messy handoff, messy paperwork, poor communication, the fact that Rigatoni might have been injured during the fight that happened because of their carelessness...

    Strange Cat Introduction

Ugh thank my lucky stars for all you guys, because I think being able to talk to you guys is the only reason I haven't gone nuclear. I put my Karen bangs on and wrote some pretty strongly worded emails to the medical team. They're literally telling me it's my own fault for trying to introduce...

    Strange Cat Introduction

WELP. Mystery somewhat solved. It turns out that Rigatoni has not been fixed. I DID think his balls were large, but I also assumed that he had gotten the surgery as he had been on the surgery list last week. I'm livid, to be honest. I work at the shelter where I adopted these guys, and the Cat...

    Strange Cat Introduction

Hi! Thanks for everyone's great replies. I'll answer as many as I can. Hopefully, it'll help me figure out what to do. Since I first posted, I haven't let the pair of them out together, always just one at a time. After exploring the room, both of them seem to end up on the bed, so I'm hoping...

    Strange Cat Introduction

Oh they'll be running like lions haha. I'll try and give Jenkins more time out. It might make him feel more comfortable. I can tell he's stressed because he likes to sit in his litter box. But he's super affectionate and sweet at the same time. I'm sort of wondering that if I integrate Rigatoni...

    Strange Cat Introduction

Rigatoni hops right onto the bed and curls up. Sometimes he walks around and stretches his legs. He likes investigating objects but he doesn't really bother Jenkins. He's got scared after the cat fight and went under the bed but he doesn't seem to mind when Jenkins goes to him. He's been eating...

    Strange Cat Introduction

You are right about towels. I usually do but I panicked when they just went for each other lightning fast. Do you think it's just a matter of giving them lots of time? If the orangebone is ready before the tuxedo, should I start introducing him to my other cats first or wait to do it together...

    Strange Cat Introduction

Just brought home two adult cats to introduce to my other cats. At the moment, the two new guys are in individual crates in the bedroom with the door closed off from my resident cats. Here is where it gets weird. I let either cat out one at a time to stretch legs and sniff around. Whenever...

Considering A Dog, Interested In Best Practices For Successfully Introducing Her To Catses

I appreciate everyone's input on this. Unfortunately, the dog I was interested in has too much of a prey drive to live with cats. I really made every effort to make sure we examined every angle, but at the end of the day, the dog probably wouldn't do well with cats. It's too bad because she's a...
