    amputate or wait?

We got a second opinion and 2nd vet says it's too soon for the nerve to have regenerated. He also said he'd be worried about blood loss if both surgeries are done at once, so we are going ahead with spaying and holding off on the amputation for a couple of months. I feel better about it as we...

    amputate or wait?

You are so right, she is the most affectionate little thing and VERY active even without the leg. I had scheduled the surgery but am going to get a second opinion...I don't have misgivings about the amputation as I know she will do well with it, but I will feel better with a second opinion.

    amputate or wait?

I wrote a few weeks ago about Molly, the kitten I picked up off the road after she was hit by a car and left for dead. She has nerve damage and still has no feeling or use in her left front paw. It's about 4 weeks now and the vet says it would have returned by now if there was any hope. We...

    female cats fight...why?

I second this -- please, please spay her as soon as possible and don't let her outside until you do. There are too many cats in shelters without homes, wouldn't you feel terrible if she got pregnant and added to the problem? It will help with the fighting issue too. They may never be good...

How long can cats be Home Alone?

I wouldn't leave without someone checking on them every day, at least every 24 hours. Even if kitty is psycho, can the sitter come in and feed/water them without interacting much with them? Just to make sure they haven't turned over their water bowl or hurt themselves while you're gone?

    litter training

I recently brought home a kitten found injured on the road. She is probably about 12 weeks but no doubt an outdoor cat and not used to a litter box. I put her to sit on the fresh litter which she tried to eat (not good!!). I thought then that I should have used some from the other cats' box...

Feeling so emotional. Will my cats ever get on?

I agree about keeping 2 -- kittens love to play and one will just annoy poor Buster. Buster will probably get used to them but in the short term, why not keep him inside or only let him out when you can check on him so he doesn't run off? I can't say that he will run off, just that this would be...

    Girls fighting

Yes, my females are spayed, except for kitten who is new and appears to be too young. My challenge is that tomorrow we have a guest arriving to stay in the room kitten is occupying so I am going to have to put her with the other cats but I am worried that the females will bully her.

    Girls fighting

Have you noticed whether cats tend to be more aggressive with others of their own sex? We started off with Male and Female1. Great friends. When they were about 18 months old, Female Kitten2 was introduced. Male quickly became friends with her and their chasing and wrestling is obviously...

    Nerve damage

Yes, the vet's girlfriend called her Molly and that was one of the names I was considering so I kept it. We call her Molly Monster, Molly Monkey, Molly Mouse... When I asked, the vet said he gave her "a long lasting steroid" so I didn't push it any further about the meds.

    Nerve damage

Well, she isn't using it but it's not stopping her. I've got her alone in a bedroom most of the time, where she sleeps, eats A LOT and gets lots of petting...but I let her out for a while today and yesterday. Wow, she is full of beans - jumped up on the dining chair, onto the table and then...

    HELP!! He is ALWAYS crying!!......long

I agree about keeping kitty and dog separated when you're not around. A dog can do a lot of damage even if he thinks he's playing. Our cats and dogs are all the same size but the dogs get excited and go into chase mode if the cats run by. Yes we stop them, but we don't take chances when we're...

    Nerve damage

That's very useful and I'm glad your kitty got back some use of his hind legs. I will ask the vet about those meds. The vet didn't tell me to confine her but I have her in a small room alone and there's nothing there for her to climb on. Thanks for the advice!

    Nerve damage

I found a kitten in the road a week ago; had been hit so I took it right away to the vet and it turns out that she has nerve damage to her spine and isn't moving her front leg. Vet has given her steroids and says we should wait 3 weeks to see if she regains any feeling in it and if not, it's...

    Dogs chasing cats

Thanks for your suggestions. He is a stray from off the road that has been hanging around our house for months, and I have seen him chase other dogs and cats on the road. (I have taken him to vet etc so I know he won't transmit anything to our pets) The first week he was inside, he was very...
