The worst part is, we know her awful history so we are trying to be as gentle with her as possible when it comes to things that scare her, she won't even sleep in a cat bed that is covered, she prefers the open ones, or my pillow. She's super afraid of being closed in, our vet jokingly said...

I did put some olive oil on the mat last night, will see what happens.

As far as the bad reaction, she was an absolute terror to actually try and get sedated in the first place, but our vet has a lot of experience with traumatized rescues so it was ok. She does have a minor heart issue so it was suggested not to sedate her in any way unless absolutely necessary.

Thank you, and yes, we have tried EVERYTHING, haha. It's going to just be a few days of us slowly getting out a little bit with our hands here and there until she builds up a tolerance and isn't so scared, I guess. Horses can definitely be mean, haha.

Thank you! She's not a fan of having her eyes covered or of being put in the restraining bag, she freaks out about going in the carrier, too. Oh she is! Awesome, thank you soooo much, was wondering if the olive oil gets all over, too. Definitely attempting this when I get home, hopefully I can at least get some oil on it without losing a finger! Will let you know how it goes

Still interested in the olive oil thing, have you ever heard about it? Supposedly the mat falls off after a few applications. I got a tiny bit of it out by pulling with my fingers and using a comb, but then of course came the 8 stitches incident.
