Our Cat has Dementia - need some advice, please

his BG numbers are within the 100-230 range. I looked up hyperthyroidism and it does say that symptoms can mimic dementia but he doesn't have most of the hyperthyroidism symptoms - eg - he does not have: increased appetite, and increased thirst and urination. No vomiting, diarrhea, and...

he's 13. Yes, we check his glucose at least 4x per day at home. He was tested for it in Oct 2022 and the levels were all normal. He did have surgery in June and I believe a full panel was done but I don't have that number.

    high glucose level detected

Hi. Our cat has diabetes and we've been treating him for over a year and a half. Food can be a factor - high carb food, crunchy food, etc. We've had to change Buddy's food a couple of times but there are a good amount of choices and prices. There is a forum called felinediabetes.com that we...

    Need Advice - Potential Surgery

His range at home is around 130-200 on average. Sometimes he drops but not consistently and yes, 6 units is definitely on the high range. Our vet read off a list of symptoms of dementia and he had most of what he said but there is no definitive way to diagnose it.

    Need Advice - Potential Surgery

@Alldara - he has had his blood pressure checked but that was probably 5 months ago and everything was fine. He is peeing normally and we do check for ketones, so everything is good there. but we can ask for his blood pressure to be taken again. Part of the reason we want to do it is because...

    Need Advice - Potential Surgery

@silent meowlook and @fionasmom - He saw both a specialist and our regular vet. The specialist wanted to charge 3x as much as said that it is a simple surgery and our regular vet is fine. Her bigger concern was potential infection at some point vs cancer but couldn't rule that out either. We...

Constipated Adult Cat - Day 4

Wanted to update everyone - he went on his own last night! There was one large BM and then a few small lose ones that have followed. Going to call the vet to ask about the cisapride, lactulose and miralax dosage. He wasn't interested in eating much last night and didn't want a snack. We'll...

Constipated Adult Cat - Day 4

@FeebysOwner - i read the link and the weird part is he has none of the symptoms of either. It could be neuropathy from the diabetes, maybe. It's the fact that he's not even trying that is so confusing.

Constipated Adult Cat - Day 4

Hi @iPappy - they took an xray last week when he was in and said that everything looks soft and not causing the colon to extend, so no blockages and no megacolon. Hi @Furballsmom - unfortunately, no. He's so weak and is not interested in playing, walking, etc. We've been trying to gently walk...
