    Chewing Fetish?

I have to keep shoelaces and thin wires away from Gracie's chewing. Radio Shack has wire covers and I don't keep shoes on the floor. Perhaps you can close off a room; designate as Rod's room and have as little as possible in there + his cat toys. Try putting him there for a little while, or...

    She kinda nibbles...

I don't think love biting is a good idea. It could too easily become a real bite. I adopted Gracie as a love biter and I trained her not to do it. Perhaps you may want to do the same with your kitten. When she is a cat, her teeth can cause major harm.

    Anti-social remedies?

I forgot to mention that my cat is declawed......not by me. I adopted her that way. She is as sweet and loving as can be. She came to me as a love biter, but since I have severe allergies, I could not tolerate that. It took a long time to alter this, maybe because it also took a long time...

New Cat Owner with Behavior Question

Chances are her attraction to wheat may be irrelevant. It is more likely the bread smells like food, so she did what a cat does with uneaten food: bury. The way to transition to a new kind of litter is to do it gradually; mixing small amount of new with the old, and over a period of days...

    Anti-social remedies?

Even though most cat lovers cringe at the thought of declawing, there is a lot of evidence that declawing, if there are no complications, has no impact on behavior. Although, I gather from your post that your cat was an adult when you did this? If that's the case, then I would think there...

Cat is too hyper...iduno what to do anymore

that's why I adopted a grown cat. I wasn't up to socializing those growing up behaviors. Also, kittens have a lot of energy! So the first thing I'm wondering is that if this is normal kitten energy that you are reacting to? If it is then it helps to know that your cat isn't misbehaving...

    Likes the garbage can

Works for me. I have a taller one in the kitchen that I empty smaller ones into. My cat likes to look through trash too, hoping to find stuff to play with. She loves dental floss, well balled up kleenex.

New Cat Owner with Behavior Question

I think there are idiosyncracies some cats have. My Gracie loves to chew on thin wires and strings. So I cover or keep wires out of her reach and keep shoes with laces out of her reach. So if Charlotte has a burying idiosyncracies, it's not that hard to cover your bread. The hate the feel of...

    bathing

Thank you everyone. Actually, a friend, who is a very experienced cat owner, offered to bathe Gracie. I'm doing everything under the sun for my allergies: shots, pills, inhalers, air cleaner, and allergy wipes for her that are used once a week. Can adult cats ever lose their fear of water?

    bathing

Thank you, Pohchoowon. How old was Daisy when you started bathing her? Although on this forum, I am listed as having a kitten, Gracie is an adult: she is 3. I just got her a few months ago from an animal rescue. How do you rinse your cat? Doesn't the bathtub water spout running, freak the...

    bathing

Thank you Hissy. I guess my concern is that Gracie HATES water. I know that is normal for cats, but I am concerned about stressing her out too much. So do you think it is still okay to bathe her? Thanks.

    bathing

Gracie is a 3 yr old applehead. I adopted her 5 months ago from the animal rescue. She is declawed (not by me!). She was a bit bitey at first, but after hiding live electrical wires (her favorite thing to bite) and working with her not to bite me....we are pretty much past that. She'll give...

    New member, with question(s).

Anne: allerpet is a solution that you apply to a washcloth and then kinda massage the cat all over. I got it from Gracie's vet. It's nice because the cat doesn't get wet. Ilive in an apt. also, but I've been a long time tenant so talked my landlord into letting me put in a laminate floor. Judy

    Change in cat's behavior

When I brought Gracie home last month from the animal rescue, the first two weeks she was very affectionate, did everything I'd want her to. I think the cats are so grateful to be out of a cage and into a home that there is a honeymoon. Now I am experiencing some of the things you are, but I...
