My foster kittens were born very small, 42 and 47g. The girl is growing and thriving, she's a chonk. The boy has always had small gains, less than 10g a day. But he was gaining, and active. Suddenly he's more lethargic and just won't latch to mom. He roots lazily and gives up to fall asleep...

They're in a small room, and I have the vent blocked.

I worry about leaving a heating pad on and the risk of fire while I'm at work :/ I will be watching their weights like a hawk.

I'm wary to try supplementing them, I don't want to cause diarrhea or stress them out. Momma gets mad if I pick them up and they cry. One thing I want to do is get supplemental warmth in their box. What method would you suggest? The snuggle safe disc? A rice filled sock isn't cutting it.

My foster cat had her kittens last night. Should have been full term, we took an xray at one point and could see skeletons so if we count that at the lowest it could be, 45 days, she would've delivered at 62 days. But her babies are TINY. I've never seen kittens this small. Like the title said...

I'm fostering a pregnant cat, Ramona. No clue how far along she is. I work at a vet clinic and had some xrays taken. The vet said maybe 2, I thought I can see 3. But the bones are pretty hard to see, so maybe she's not as far along as I thought? She seems pretty big!

Update: he gained 10 grams overnight and is quietly sleeping this morning. So she must be nursing him.

She does seem bored. Unfortunately I have my own pets and can't pet her roam outside the foster room. Even if I did, I get the feeling she'd take a liking to the freedom and not want to be shut in the room again. I'll check on him in a few hours. I was contemplating whether I should feed him...

I just got this foster mom a few days ago. By my guess she's probably around 2 or 3 years old. She was an owner surrender. She originally had 3 kittens but 2 died, maybe right after birth? I don't know for sure. She now just has the one. He's around 1.5 weeks old, no umbilical cord but his eyes...

The shelter I'm fostering for adopts out at 8 weeks so I'd like for them to be more independent by that time.

I have a foster momma with her 3 kittens who are just over 6 weeks old. They eat some wet food and dry food but must still be getting a majority of their calories from mom because they're gaining weight great but not eating much. I don't have somewhere to put mom to separate them and I wouldn't...

Update: she gave birth to 5 babies. I took them to the vet because I was suspicious 2 had cleft palates. I was right. They also had deformities in their back legs. The cleft palates were bad enough that they would not thrive. We elected to humanely euthanize those two. The other three are...

I've bottle fed before, but I'd rather these guys get that colostrum and not be dependent on a bottle. At least 1 nipple I know if producing, I think 2 have latched to that one at different times. She's still in labor, she's having contractions with the 5th now. I'm hoping that when she's done...

4 babies so far, and they all seem to be rooting around and grunting/crying but nobody will latch!
