Dry food good for teeth development?

You are correct.  That vet has had her head under a basket for quite a while!  Everyone else has taken a good, long look at the theory that dry food is beneficial for the teeth. (If you're in a place where you can shop around, I'd look for another vet.  She may be out of date on other issues...

    chicken allergy -- dry food?

Thank you. Raintyger in Long Beach.  I have tried and tried to get this little girl to eat some wet/ canned food.  For a few months she would eat Blue Buffalo Wilderness duck -- which I only offered in desperation, as I don't trust this company.  (They refuse to give info on the phosphorus...

Very social cat hiding for no apparent reason

Cats hide when they are sick.  Cats are prey animals.  We think of them as predators, but they are also prey, in the wild, to larger animals.  A sick cat feels very vulnerable, and hides.

Hybrid Cats - lots of reasons to rethink

My 2 cents worth:  I think it's a crime.  If animals had rights, they wouldn't do it.  The shelters are full of beautiful, healthy, affectionate, smart and wonderful cats who need homes.  To breed cats to look a certain way so one can sell and make money off them is, I strongly feel, morally...

My cat has just been neutered but is still amorous is this normal?

And he still may think he wants to try to make kittens. For a long time.   It's not abnormal.  Some just get the impulse again now and then.  Some get the impulse often.  Usually, you can expect the impulse to disappear when they get older, even if they've kept it up during their younger years.

    Vomiting Cat question

If I were you, I would just stop using the scent.  Period.   Cats can be allergic to fish, as to chicken or beef.  Try offering a chicken based food next.

    chicken allergy -- dry food?

I've been reading and reading thru posts and topics and have run out of time and patience, forgive me.  My now 3 yr old cat, adopted last summer, seems to be allergic to chicken.  She was skinny when I brought her home from the shelter, where she was only offered chicken based foods (donated by...

Wet Food Rec's for Senior Cat Who's Allergic to Chicken & Losing Too Much Weight

I forgot to mention that I have a young cat now who will not eat canned food (yet -- one day we'll get there), and seems to be allergic to chicken.  Her vet said she needed to switch to a Limited Ingredient Diet -- there are none I can find which does not have chicken it it.  Most are chicken...

Wet Food Rec's for Senior Cat Who's Allergic to Chicken & Losing Too Much Weight

I wouldn't worry about the fish.  And I've read Nestle and Nesheim's book, FEED YOUR PET RIGHT, along with just about everything else I can find about feline nutrition, and am pretty well convinced we're been marketed into an extreme frame of mind.  People are now paranoid about "by products,"...

need help on making the transition from dry to wet food.

Watch her weight during the transition.  My Boo didn't protest when I was transitioning him from a mostly dry to a mostly canned diet, but after I bought a scale I found he's lost an entire pound.  I gave him back his dry food.  Even if your cat can stand to lose some weight, you don't want it...

Live mice from petstore - seeking experienced opinions

If two mice get away from the cat you may find yourself with a lot more mice around than you want.  Has your cat ever caught, killed and eaten a live mouse?  Cats who've lived their entire lives indoors may not be at all interested in live mice.   Cheri

Pork in cat food - what's the deal?

Foods for cats with chronic kidney disease are mostly pork based.  Perhaps it is lower in phosphorus than other meats. Cheri

Doesn't Seem to Be Using New Water Feeder

The cat who lives with me is picky about his water bowls.  (The white ones are too reflective, for e.g., and he acts like he's afraid of them.)  Yes, bowls -- I have 3 - 4 around the house all the time now.  When my Dad was dying, I abruptly left for 3 days.  When I returned, I found my neighbor...

Help please!!!! Problem with feral cat and kittens...Advice needed!!!!!

I agree with the others who think your  momma cat may calm down and take her place in the household after the kittens are gone.  If you can be patient, you'll welcome the live pest control work.  She may even go back to living mostly outdoors, once the kittens are gone, but stick around closely...

Comment by 'cheddi' in article 'Declawing - More Than Just A Manicure'

Mark told me about having his little Elsie declawed before he even took her home, after the fact. I can never feel the same about him again. He lost my respect. The very next year, declawing became illegal where we live. Too late for Elsie. But at least I know Mark can never do that again.
