3 Months After Bringing In A New Cat, We're Still Struggling

We actually have 6 boxes - if you look further up, I posted a map. I don't think it's constipation, as I've watched him come into the spare room and squat down and go. No attempt at the box at all. Thanks for these resources! I'll take a look.

Three little nuggets. Not as much as will usually be there when he goes, but there wasn't anything new in any of the boxes. And they had a toy draped over top of them lol :rolleyes3:

 Spoke too soon... just found some turds in between all the boxes we have in the spare room. Just dead center of the floor. Oh well. I guess we will keep working with him. I did purchase some of the feliway (the multicat diffuser and the spray) that should be here tomorrow. Maybe that will...

Also, I posted in the introductions section over here to more formally introduce ourselves! Thanks everyone for all your help with decoding the behavior of Fred (Cat 1) and George (Cat 2)!

    Hi There!

I've been posting in the Behavior forum about some problems we've been having with our two crazies, but I figured we would introduce ourselves! We adopted our first boy, Fred, in August 2017 from our local shelter. He was about a year old then, and so sick and skinny and had seemingly every...

3 Months After Bringing In A New Cat, We're Still Struggling

Thanks, Jen. I'm beginning to think the users saying similar things are right. Last night, I ignored some screaming and they were hopping up into bed with us and falling asleep five minutes later. This morning they were going at it under the bed, but when we woke up later they were just kind of...

3 Months After Bringing In A New Cat, We're Still Struggling

 Yeah, I know that feeling... we're going to try tiring them out with daily group play and will pursue a shelf system if there's still trouble. Here's an update: still some howling and chasing following wrestling, but bringing out a toy helps. Can't tell if Cat 1 is actually spraying or...

Cat Overturning Fountains..anyone Else Have This Problem?

We use this one! It holds so much water, it's quite heavy when it's full. I would be surprised if he could knock it over. But I'd expect the ceramic ones will work too as long as they're bottom heavy enough.

The ceiling in our living room is 10 ft. I have been looking at shelves we could put over the couch. We don't have a lot of floor space for another tree - we already have two.

3 Months After Bringing In A New Cat, We're Still Struggling

Thank you! Neither of us really comes from cat families - my dad has two, but they're indoor/outdoor on 60 acres of forest and when there is conflict it's easy for them to get some space. Meanwhile, we're in a 700 sq ft apartment. It helps so much to hear stories from others and understand that...

3 Months After Bringing In A New Cat, We're Still Struggling

Right, I knew there was a piece of your post I forgot! I have been eyeing the SureFeed one, but it's so pricey ($140) and family and friends have made us worry that it won't even work if Cat 1 is afraid of it. It unfortunately looks like the one you linked is no longer available. There's another...

3 Months After Bringing In A New Cat, We're Still Struggling

The enclosed litter box we currently have is just that - a big rubbermaid bin with a giant hole in the side. We enlarged the hole even more last night to see if that would help him, since he doesn't seem to like having to hop over a high wall to get into the box. Jury's still out on whether...

3 Months After Bringing In A New Cat, We're Still Struggling

Thanks for the advice. We will try to mellow out a bit about it, but the last thing we want is to ignore it and then have the situation end up deteriorating. It especially seems like Cat 1 has gotten more comfortable asserting himself in the last few weeks, whereas previously he had been much...

3 Months After Bringing In A New Cat, We're Still Struggling

Yes, they’re both neutered. The last time we asked our vet about food, he said we shouldn’t be feeding any wet food at all because it’s bad for their teeth... that got some raised eyebrows from us, so we’ve been on the hunt for a new vet. We will be sure to ask - in the meantime I’ve been...

3 Months After Bringing In A New Cat, We're Still Struggling

Thanks so much for the reply! We do actually have 4 litter boxes, but the other two I didn't mention (the original top-entry one plus a tiny open tray) are small and don't get a lot of use. We will look at adding more big ones to see if that helps any. They have toys all over, but when the...
