Lila will occasionally do the licking thing, I don't know why but she randomly does it and I have never been able to pinpoint why or what causes her to do it. But more often than that, she will sit in my lap and knead, purr, and stares at me and DROOLS. There are spit bubbles around her mouth and strands of drool several inches long coming out of her mouth. I tell her she needs a bib. I read some cats do this when they are blissfully happy. (Her teeth are in great shape.)

Willy has always drooled while purring. From what I have read, this is very normal.

I came to accept that my pants will be soaked after a kneading session.

I've had so many spit spots on my jeans and sweatshirts! I find it really kind of cute, she's so happy and her purring and kneading during these times are much more intense.

Boden likes to give me very gentle licks on my hand when I am petting him. He is a lover and a sweetie.

Leo will groom my head sometimes when I pet him. He is very affectionate. He also will drool when I pet him. I keep a box of tissues around when he is sitting on my chest or I get drool on my face!

My other cats are not above licking me when I pet them, but it is rare.

My cat drools when she gets excited too!

One of my cats at work will not lick, but he's a head boop-er. If you're stooped down for any reason, he will come and sit beside you and the ears and whiskers are forward as he watches you curiously, and then slowly he takes his paw, places it on your head, and pushes down. It's hilarious! He's also been known to do this to the other cats when they're eating. He just walks up to them, watches them eat for a second, then takes his paw and splats their face into the dish.

Yep, sidle is a word!

Phoebe is a great washer of humans. She likes doing my chin when she’s lying on me, and Mum’s hand during her evening lap time. Daisy will wash my face or hands sometimes, but she’s not a dedicated washer like Phoebe is.
I had a cat growing up who would chew my hair. My hair was very long then, so maybe he was telling me he preferred it short!
Sarah used to be a licker but not so much anymore. When she was a kitten I had her entire litter that all looked identical, and I could always tell which was her by putting my hand out. She would always give it a quick wash.

I called Maddie (my avatar kitty) my hairdresser! She loved sitting on the back of the chair and nibbling and combing my hair with her teeth when I’d just washed it.

Betty is a lap cat. She will sit here all morning and all evening long. Until she’s hungry enough to finish the remainders on her plate. She’ll be back though until it’s bedtime. Then she’ll curl up on my shoulder and rest her head against my chest until I absolutely need to roll over. Because I’m a side sleeper. But she doesn’t lick much. She’s not above a courtesy lick if she’s grooming and my hand is near. But it’s not a priority to her.

Now Krista, she was a licker. Any hand left in range was going to get licked. If I did yoga, I was going to get licked. She was also a lap cat. And if my hand came in range during a petting session, it was going to get licked.

Betty is a face brusher. If my face is at her level, it’s fair game for a drive by. 😹

I think there is a correlation with salt on the skin, after working out, and an increased likelihood of licking.
Nothing to do with salt content. She was just an avid licker. Even if I didn’t sweat, if I left fingers in range, they were going to get licked.

You mentioned it was a guarantee after doing yoga, which was why I mentioned the theory. I've heard from some cat owners that they get licked at an increased frequency after working out.

Willy is a major lap-cat, and when he is grooming himself while on my lap, I often offer my hand near his face, and he proceeds to groom me.

I understand this is a common thing, but I'm just wondering how common this is, and how your particular cat licks you, and in which circumstances.
Yes, Merlin and Zena wash me a bit sometimes when they are washing etc. Lately Zena jumps right up to my face when I am laying in bed, plops himself on top of me, and tries to lick my lips, lol. I am not sure what's up with that one 😹 I had to push him off of me last night because that was too much for me. Quinn thinks they are crazy though, he never grooms me. Very rarely he might lick my hand.

I'm sure that's true. It just didn't matter to Krista. Salty or salt-free, I was getting licked. If the day ended in "y", I was getting licked.

Betty likes my pits. I work from home, often in a yoga tank, and she'll get her nose right up in there if I get to her level. She used to sleep in my pits at night. But I find it's more comfortable for the both of us now if she drapes across a shoulder and onto my chest. "Over arm, not underarm, Betty."

And I'm convinced that all cats see in infrared because everyone I've had goes straight for crotches and pits--the warmest spots.

Daisy bunts just like that! Jams her skull right into me if I have the nerve to be sitting in the armchair instead of lying on the bed. She freaked out a visitor who’s not used to cats by doing it to her, once.

That's the same explanation as why they are biological sundials, and follow the sun from window to window.

My cat ALWAYS lays in sunlight, and then when the sun goes down, wants to be right in my lap all the time.
