I don’t know if it’s still too early to tell - but my cat had a litter of 4 kittens (1 boy 3 girls) they’re almost 8 weeks old now and the male seems to have different coloured eyes to his litter mates so far. I started to notice that his eyes weren’t turning like his sisters were just over a week ago and started monitoring them and comparing to his sisters eye-colour changes. His haven't seemed to change, whilst his sisters eyes are almost completely yellow/greenish now.

Is this any indication that this will potentially be his permanent eye colour, or does it just mean he’ll have different coloured eyes to his siblings? I’m assuming the 3 girls will have the same colour as their mother who is a yellow/Amber eyed black cat. The father is a blue-point ragdoll with blue eyes.

Any help/info would be greatly appreciated!

It looks to me that there is some slight color change in the center near the pupil. I bet it’s just taking him a little longer.
such cuties ❤
That’s what I was thinking as well, but the greenish centre kind of stopped expanding and has stayed the same for over a week now. It’s the first time I’ve noticed different eye-colour changes within the same litter, so I’m curious. Only time will tell I guess!

Not really! He seems to have the same general build as his sisters. He could just have sleepy melanin 😂

My abyssinian boy started with gold eyes with a narrow ring of green around the pupil. It took 4 or 5 years (not months) for the green to expand so his eyes were totally green.

Oh my goodness! That’s such an incredibly long time! It’s interesting that they went from yellow to green though! I thought yellow meant higher melanin, and green was lesser

Some kittens take longer to cool change. Very unlikely will have blue eyes or two different colour eyes. Hope both parents are fixed or will be soon :) Very cute kittens

Update for whoever is still watching this post! (if any 😂)
It’s been just over a week since I first posted this thread thingy, and I’ve been monitoring little Zazu’s eye colour progress. His eyes haven’t changed much (if at all) so far. And I don’t mean since my last post, but from when I first noticed the difference in his eye colour to his sisters. More or less it’s been about 3 weeks so far that his eye-colour “changes” have been near stagnent, whereas his sisters eyes have been rapidly turning more and more hazel/yellow (as expected)

And I know, I know!! I know some people have said he might just be slower at losing his baby blues… But unless I’m going crazy I could swear the Aqua/Blue shade that he currently has are nothing like any baby-blue shades I’ve seen on a kitty who’s over 8 weeks old and black coated… Him and his sisters all had the same default baby-blues until they hit 5 weeks 😆

Anyway, I’m just super excited and the anticipation is killing me, so I can’t help but want to share this progress here!! I took these photos of him and one of his sisters today at the same time/location (their favourite spot under our tables lol) for reference and comparison.

I also want to add, that the purpose of me making this thread was purely out fascination and curiosity. I’ve had, and taken care of many cats and kittens in my life. I’m well aware of kitten life stages when it comes to their growth/changes etc etc… But it’s my first time seeing such a drastic difference in eye-colour from the same litter at the same time, and on top of that - I haven’t seen this sort of an intense blue/aqua shade in a kitten (who’s not a blue-eyed cat) at this age before, particularly a black one.
I’m not posting this as a “Omg omg my kitten has blue eyes!!” Lol! I’m purely posting this here for fun, and as a way to share the super exciting progress with fellow cat peeps!

Oh, wow! What a difference between the girls and the boy! Wouldn’t it be cool if his eyes stayed that same lovely shade of blue!

Right?! Such a stark contrast. I mean regardless of what colour eyes he ends up with - I love and adore him, so he’ll always be my special little gem! But absolutely! It would be so cool if he kept this eye colour into adulthood considering he’s a black-furred cat! ✨

I’m praying that Zazus eyes to stay blue. It looks like there’s good possibility that it will. You are so ,so lucky. It looks like his personality will be larger than life to top it off with blue eyes!!!! You got yourself a unicorn!!!!! Literally!!!! We need to see him grow up. I politely demand weekly updates. Please…..!!!

Aww thank you! He has a vet appointment tomorrow so I might ask my vet what he thinks as well. I’m not sure if he would have answers about cat genetics when it comes to potential mutations, but it’s worth asking while I’m there.

Hahaha it would definitely make him a unicorn! I will make sure to continue posting progress shots here!! This thread can become “Zazu’s eye-colour journey” to document this little (potential) oddity-kitty 😂😂😂

Zazu Update: - First 2 photos taken on Monday 16th May, and last pic taken this morning. He is now just over 10 weeks old. His sisters eyes have all settled into their adult hazels.

Zazu’s eyes still appear blue in colour. But, I think I’m noticing some changes since my last post! The vibrancy of the greenish/Aqua hues look to be a bit less intense than before, and I feel like they're bit more greyish in hue now.

Until next time!
