What's a wet food your cat can't resist?

My two male cats have always been particular about wet food (even though I feel most cats would die for it). What's a wet food that your cats got nuts over?! Mine are both on medication so I put it on their food (I can't give it to them orally, one is insane for it and the other would bite me). I need something that they will gobble up, but would prefer something that isn't complete trash food.
Thank you!

Fancy feast classics my cats gobble up. They like turkey&giblets. Weruva thou some are high carb and contain fish. I avoid fish but fish they can become addicted to so they would like that

Fancy Feast. My cats love it. But they like the varieties that are grilled with gravy, not the pate. I know it's not good to have too much fish, but if I were trying to get medication down, it would be Fancy Feast grilled ocean whitefish and tuna feast in gravy. Oh yeah - they love it.

Only reason I occasionally give my cats fish is the omega 3&6. I just bought tabs of fish oil. Messy but needed

Ask your vet if you can get the medacine flavored(compounded) at a pharmecy. Fortiflora from the vet might help and freeze dried treats for toppers.
Yep, the meds are already compounded into a liquid and they get Fortiflora. Still a no on the wet food 🙃 maybe I’ll try some freeze dried treats

My cat loved the bubble gum flavor. I also give her churu tubes. She is on Prescription food but I mix in weruva steak frites. Her freeze dried is from a small pet store so it has a stronger smell than pure bites. Also try warming it up. My cat that has trouble eating does better when my other cats are not in the same room. She likes to eat with just me

If you can’t find a wet food that excites them, you can try various toppers to entice them. Here are some ideas:

Sprinkle food with :
  • FortiFlora — It’s a mediocre probiotic but it’s very appealing to cats because it has animal digest as its first ingredient, the same thing that coats dry food. Most cats love the taste of it.
  • Grated Parmesan cheese
  • Crushed crumbles of dry food — There are some higher protein/lower carb/grain free brands such as Dr. Elsey’s Clean Protein.
  • Bonito flakes — Can be found at Asian markets or sometimes in the Asian food section of a large grocery store.
  • Freeze-dried treats or freeze-dried raw food — Crumble into dust or small pieces over food. I use Pure Bites chicken treats and Northwest Naturals liver treats, but there are lots of choices. If you use Pure Bites, it’s actually less expensive to buy the dog treats and they’re the same thing. For freeze-dried raw, Stella & Chewy’s and Northwest Naturals may also work. Or you can re-hydrate the freeze-dried raw and mix their meds in that. They’re actually complete meals, unlike the treats. Mine love the NW Naturals freeze-dried raw turkey food (not so much the frozen, though).
  • Pour a little water from tuna in water over food. Use no sodium added (I buy it at Trader Joe’s) as other kinds in water have veg. broth and I assume that means onions, which are toxic to cats. Also it shouldn't contain soy; check labels. I dilute the juice with more water, too. It’s more the smell than anything.
  • Baby food — Beechnut or Gerber Stage 2. You want a baby food that is a protein only although the Gerber contains cornstarch. It should have no onions or other additives. Please read labels carefully.

If your cat a condition like kidney disease, I would only use raw freeze dried as a topper because it's high in phosphorous

I am genuinely curious. Why do a majority of the folks on the website seem to avoid feeding fish type cat food?

Fish / seafood is ok to be fed occasionally as treats or a meal. Feeding nothing but fish / seafood can cause issues such a cat refusing to eat anything else and possibly some health issues.

Could the medicine be compounded into a pill and then you can use a Pill Pocket or something similar and treat-like to get it in the cats and not worry about food? Or a transdermal gel could be made and applied to the ear.

The only wet foods my cat never turns down are Tiny Tiger and American Journey. Both unfortunately are Chewy house brands. Sheba is the only readily available food that she will eat most of the time.

Thanks. I was looking for more scientific reasons rather than articles from cat specific websites (even though they are quite valuable). Most everything I have read, including vet school websites, say there is nothing wrong with it at all, as long as that is not ALL you feed your cat. It is no more likely to cause issues than feeding any other flavor exclusively. The article below from UW basically says fish is just fine, as long as it is part of a varied diet, variety being the key.
