ll viruses have a fatty membrane that's destroyed by soap; I don't think there's anything special about COVID-19 in that regard.
I stand corrected.

At 64 if I do pick up this virus I don't think my immune system could also handle a bacteria.
Okay, that makes sense. However, except in the case of viruses, the whole point of hand washing isn't to kill infectious agents, it's to wash them away.

There have been stories about hackers spoofing coronavirus maps to get personal information off of your computer or device. I don't know which maps/domains are doing this, but you can search "coronavirus maps + malware" to find out about it.

I'd recommend you only try to get accurate and safer info from more official sites like the CDC,
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.htmlcdc.gov

and WHO [World Health Organization],
Home

and I personally would only use the map linked specifically from Johns Hopkins' domain, to be safe,
Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center

Be careful out there people!
Good advice.

I think those are more important questions than "How can we make Willow's Mom STFU about random controversial issues that have nothing whatsoever to do with cats.", lol.
I agree. Except, did someone on this site say something like that to you?

Just saw this story: Mexico frets about U.S. coronavirus spread, could tighten border

Nah, but I'm sure some of the mods wanted to sometimes and I'm logging out now to save them the hassle.

I hope Mexico tightens the borders before it's too late. It doesn't sound like things are doing all that well in Argentina already. :(

I've found that it's generally a bad idea to criticize myself. I'm not a Christian, but there are a few very wise things in the Bible, one of which is "Love your neighbor as yourself." I've noticed that most sermons based on this text amount to "You need to feel guilty because you aren't good enough at loving your neighbor," which is counter-productive. The real lesson we should get from this text is, "If you want to be a loving person, start by loving yourself." And I've noticed that when people criticize themselves they frequently say horrible things that they would never even think of saying about someone else. So I tend to advise people to love themselves as they love their neighbors.

That said, if you happen to feel frazzled enough that you fear you may lose control, some time off is probably a good idea, not so much because it will prevent you from losing control as that it sounds like you need a break.

Take some "Me" time. Read a good book, or take a warm bath, or bury yourself in purring kitties. Whatever makes you happy.

Everyone SHOULD be ready, this has been going on since December. The government has been saying for weeks to stock up enough of everything you need for two weeks. The problem I noticed when I went to do my own stocking up is that people are either taking advantage of this crisis and buying to resell, or are panicking and buying WAY too much. Someone in line was buying two hundred rolls of toilet paper!!?? Come on, this is ridiculous! there should be limits on how much to buy, and I'm sure there will be. I noticed in my own Walmart yesterday the laundry, toilet paper, milk, OTC flu medications, and cat litter aisle were empty. They were OK two days before that. Another problem is we don't think of many things we actually do need, like pet medications, until it is almost too late. this is teaching us all a very good lesson1 Thanks W Willow's Mom for the heads up!

We only have enough toilet paper for maybe 2 weeks. Do you think they will restock soon? What are we supposed to use? The places I've checked online were all out of stock.

This whole situation with the virus has sadden me. More specifically, with regard to human behaviour. It seems like when we fear for our lives, we become quite selfish. And there are much worse things that could happened. How would we react in those situations too? Really makes you think.
Yeah, I really don't understand the way people are acting. The way people are behaving honestly has me MORE worried than the virus itself does.

I live in Miami, but they keep saying they'll restock this week. Keep calling around ask at what time they restock.

We are almost out of those too. :(
As gross as you may find this to be, although it's in the same line as cloth diapers....you can get a few old T-shirts, cut them up into little squares and use those. When you're wiping a "messy" bathroom visit, just rinse it out before placing in your container for used bum wipes. Then when needed, toss them into the washing machine with detergent and bleach...and voila...you have reusable toilet paper!

M maggiedemi Trucks ARE Running-remember it takes 24 to 72 hours to do a complete restock-I highly suggest going to the store right when they open=they have their 3rd shift put stuff out usually. I used to work in grocery-the warehouses are centralized now in far away locations=so the store orders or requests x amount-the trucks get loaded=they drive here- 12 to 36 hours-then sent to distribution center= another 12 to 24 hours minumum. The next step is loaded onto ANOTHER truck for that route of stores-another 12 to 24 hours depending how far away they are driving=how many stops, traffic, mandatory parking of truck after 11 hours (I heard the President has suspended this requirement because people are panicing)

Then the stuff delivered to the store=then 2 to 12 hours to be placed out for sale...lots of steps-some places have less steps=some more..so it normally takes 2 to 3 days return time-I imagine Tue to Thur will be good days to go. By the way there's a Proctor Gamble in PA that makes paper products, plus Georgia Pacific also manufactures these items-there's PLENTY of stock folks=it's time consuming to get it to us consumers..My local walmart and Hannafords have put a limit of 1 per person for TP and sprays etc etc.

I know most people just go first thing in the morning.

I did run to Walmart Friday night to see what's left-mostly people watching but needed soda and some baking goods-preparing for 14 day stay home=we can't survive without sweets so got cookie mixes, flour, sugar, salt, vanilla etc-( I haven't purchased this stuff for 2 years-so more than likely the stuff I have is expired) I did get more tissues...my allergies are insane. So far the number of Covid is increasing-last heard 13 cases in my state but mass has over 120+ :(

Jon went out Sat and Sun morning to get some canned fruit-not sure why-they had plenty of fresh fruit
I think it's a comfort thing to have supplies incase something happens. The other thing I want to bring up=if the government pumps funny money into the supply we will see inflation-so that is another reason for the panic buying-some people don't think they will have money in 7 to 30 days to buy food=so buying NOW while we have funds...That's what worries me the most-prices go up, jobs lost, Constitution is suspended and ya know all the other stuff that goes with it.

My only biggest worry is people who would ignore this quarantine and try to loot/steal. So I will continue to monitor my area via the online groups that we all have video of any suspicious activity and involve the police...It's scary to me because we don't live in a fortress so it concerns me that in my small town=there's only so many cops to go around...other than that, we will be OK.

Every home should have 1 or 2 thermometers, I think. It seems a wise thing to have, so that you can take your temperature when you feel a bit "off". Every bit of knowledge about yourself and how you are feeling is important. Pay attention to how you are feeling, even little symptoms if you are under 55-60 years old. Have some flu-cold medicine around, too. Many with minor symptoms, even if it is just a cold or the usual influenza or allergies, should think of self-isolating a bit more than the usual -- to protect those around you from getting sick, if possible. Most of all, protect and help the elderly, if you can.

And many doctors and hospitals are reaching out to people online, giving their guidelines and preferences about how to proceed with health care and health issues. Anything elective or normal check-ups that you do yearly can be postponed, to give your health providers some space and time to organize themselves for the potential, upcoming conronavirus issues.

I don't have any in my home, it's one of those things that I just never think of getting until I need it. (I don't have children just FYI)
I'm actually feeling a bit under the weather at the moment. My co-worker had a cold last week and my husband as well. So I believe it's just a cold. I wanted to check my temp this morning....but as I said...I don't have one, so I shoved a meat thermometer probe under my tongue. It's reading between 98 and 99 F (it flickers back and forth between the two numbers), so if this meat thermometer is accurate, I can assume I don't have a fever! LOL!
I know I shouldn't laugh, but I can't help it.

For toilet paper, either ask someone you know (maybe from your mom's congregation?) who works at a store to help you out, or go online to Walmart's (or the grocery store's) store pickup site early in the morning and see if they have any in stock, and order it quick!

I don't have a thermometer either. I tried to find one yesterday but nope. I do have an aquarium thermometer. . .:D.

Kleenex? I actually have a stock in my car of four boxes from months ago when there was a really good sale on them, so I guess that's what we'll be doing if we run out of toilet paper and can't get more.

 I know how you feel (about laughing)!

I'm actually happy about "no sports on tv" although I know, of course, that it's a huge problem economically for lots and lots of people (the cascading effect on the economy right now --with ALL of the shutdowns-- is frightening). But it IS nice to not have sports going on all the time on the tv, as my husband is working from home now... and yet, I don't have to hear sports, sports, sports on the tv all the time now, in the background! I get to have a several-month hiatus from that! I cannot believe it.
(:paperbag: ok, that made me feel guilty to say that)
