I know a lot of people saw snow this weekend; but it's almost May and that means summer weather is coming!! Eventually! Although it sounds like some people are skipping spring this year. :alright:

It's birthday season for my family so I had to run out for some wrapping paper this afternoon.

How do you wrap presents? Paper, gift bags, gift cards in an envelope?

I like wrapping with paper. It's just fun to tear into paper to see whats inside. But I will use gift bags for oddly shaped items or if I'm in a hurry. Plus; they are reusable. Most paper is recyclable now; but still. I'm also using gift cards more often. It's just...easier. Especially if I have to send something in the mail. At Christmas we sent SIL a gift card to take her crew to a fancy frozen yogurt place. They liked that. But since we have plenty of nieces and nephews that are still too young to appreciate those kinds of gifts; wrapping paper is still a staple here too.

Christmas gifts are usually wrapped in paper but birthday gifts are usually in bags. I use a full roll of paper at Christmas time so I don't ever have to worry about storing it the rest of the year.

Whew well I'm very clumsy but growing up I learned from somewhere that presentation was a big deal. I greatly prefer wrapping in paper over bags. I do use bags (ie. for the cat shelter staff where there are numerous people to gift to) but I've learned to wrap gifts the old-fashioned way. I can make tape and cut paper/ edges look invisible.

My husband on the other hand will wrap a gift and the whole thing is coming apart and pieces of the gift will rip through the paper. I still appreciate the sentiment because he took time to wrap that gift for my nieces or nephew who really don't care about the presentation and just shred it all without a thought.

Who knows which way is better. He is more sane over that winter holiday than I am by far.

Incidentally I also used to be a manager at a gourmet chocolate shop so we had to do pretty baskets and gift wrapping. I'm formally trained in it; I've studied videos and been shown how to do it by "professionals" so I'm not bad despite my chaotic nature.

I use gift bags with tissue paper for color.
If you can deal with tissue paper that is great! Gift bags are reusable. A lot of people save gift wrapping paper with the intention of reusing it but never do so it's a bit of a waste.

I was at a market a year or so ago and there was a woman selling off-cuts of brightly patterned material.. as gift wrap! it was mainly upholstery samples which would just be thrown out. I bought a heap and have been wrapping gifts in it. People keep it and pass it on. One friend used some to put together a cushion she was making (out of bits and pieces.. there wasn't enough to make a whole one).
It looks great and makes use of something that's just going to be tossed out.

Sounds beautiful! Anything people will keep and reuse is good in my book!

I don't really give regular gifts that have to wrapped anymore. I just give gift certificates or take people out to lunch/dinner.

I'm horrible when it comes to wrapping, so I've resorted to gift bags. That said, gifts are meant to be opened, not admired :p
Exactly! I can't wrap presents for anything. I buy the bags. If I did buy wrapping paper I would buy it at the dollar stores. Every one raves about about their prices and their paper.

I do it all. It depends on who is getting the gift and what the gift is. I'm good at wrapping and ribbons and all that so it doesn't bother me to do it. I save bags, tissue paper, bows and ribbons, boxes, and yes, I do reuse them. The only thing I have to buy now and again is wrapping paper, but I only get it end of season when it's on clearance, same with gift tags. I have not bought tissue paper or bags in years because most people in my circle use bags and tissue paper and even give their used stuff to me that their gifts came in.

I can wrap fairly well, but my family has stopped giving birthday gifts. We are so far away from each other, it's hard to know what they would like and don't already have. I'm in the process of cleaning out my walk-in closet and discovered a dozen or more rolls of paper from baby shower on up. I threw out a bunch, just keeping a few. If I can, I also go the bag and tissue route. I've kept a number of bags and have lots of ribbon. Mingo likes to knock the ribbon off the shelf and unroll and chew on it. He wakes me up in the morning scrunching on ribbon.

I normally use a mixture of paper and gift bags depending on the type of present I've got. I'm not that good at wrapping but have gotten better recently. I'm more concerned about whether the present is good and suitable for the person than the actual wrapping.

For Yule and Twelfth Night, we use wrapping paper that is made of recyclables and then recycle it. I typically do not use bows or name tags. (Each person gets their own pattern. As long as I remember who got what pattern, we are good.) Birthday gifts are usually not physical gifts, but, when they are, they are not wrapped.

It depends what the gift is and who it's for.Sometimes I use paper, sometimes a pretty gift bag, then maybe a gift box with tissue paper and then there's always the gift card tucked inside a card...birthday,anniversary,etc.My son and daughter in law's anniversary is right before Christmas,as is her birthday,so there's several things to cover all on the same day.I love to wrap, and some years I plan gifts that need to be wrapped, and out comes the bows and ribbons.I enjoy the process, but I have to hide away in my bedroom with the cats definitely kept out.
