I just recently read someone else commenting that menadione has been added to Tiki cat food. I looked on the label on recent food I purchased from tiki and I see vitamin k3 supplement. Is this the same thing?

I'm seriously losing my mind trying to find something purrfect for my Siloh. I can't make his food as I work all of the time, pretty much. He doesn't like raw frozen food either. I was using KOHA, but I cannot get them in 3 oz cans, and if I give him half a 5.5 oz and later get the other half from refrigerator ..he hates that I warmed it up. I wamt something with no gums at all, no carrageenan, agar agar, grain free. I'm about to cry I am so stressed looking year after year, night after night.

Hey you can also look into Dr. Elsey’s chicken and turkey. Don’t think those flavors have any of that stuff.

Hi!
abyeb abyeb is correct, it is the same.

I was in the same boat but hopefully you can find foods that work. And try not to stress about it too much :)

If you aren't familiar with it, this database isn't perfect but it is helpful;

One of the Dr Elseys I ran across a min ago had carageenan I believe, but will check the specific flavor mentioned here. I did take a look at ziwi, but I think it had too many calories. I could be wrong on that. I'm trying to get my fat baby to lose weight and be as healthy as possible.

Miko has sunflower oil so I stay away from vegetable oils in his food as well. I know I sound like such a pain in the a$$. I'm in denial I guess. I want him to be with me forever.

Feline natural I think I have bookmarked. Thanks so much for your replies! ❤

Don’t worry about it! It’s only natural to want the best for our furbabies, and I’m more than glad to help you out!

Another brand that I forgot to mention before that you might want to look into is Nature’s Variety Instinct.

Rawz I think it is also good, but same issue with the 5.5 oz cans. Caru same thing with 6 oz cartons

Instinct Canned foods are gum free and I also believe Vitamin K free. They do come in 3 oz cans.

I realize this isn't within the subject of the thread exactly, but since you mentioned weight loss I was wondering if you could increase your baby's activity?

Is he willing to play by himself? You could also consider training him to a harness and taking him for walks.

Maybe something here will help;

Feline Natural is great food but watch out -- the price is going up and it was expensive to begin with. Other than that, it's about as close to perfect food as you can find. It's relatively low-calorie, too, I believe, though that's not always a plus: sometimes cats get hungry sooner on lower-calorie foods. Rawz, which mizzely mizzely mentioned, is also great food.

We feed a lot of freeze-dried raw food: maybe Shiloh would like freeze-dried more than frozen? Our cats didn't like the frozen version of Primal but love the freeze-dried. Go figure. The great thing about freeze-dried is that you don't have to worry about taking it out of the freezer.

Good thinking, Furballsmom! Playing is so important for cats, because it’s good exercise and mental stimulation as well! Leash walks are a good idea too, but if it’s as cold by you right now as it is where I live, that might have to wait until spring. :)

Hi there, yes we have started exercising. He is tired of the laser now, but I have found some things he just loves. Clear snap on bottle caps. LOL He will chase those around for a good while. He also likes dental floss/string, so we play with that as well. I just don't want him to get diabetes like my other 2. I need him to live as long as possible. He's my whole world!

I really appreciate everyone's kindness and patience. I went on a site I found on fb a few weeks ago. The woman seemed irritated by all of my questions. I mostly research everything on my own, but I love to ask others their opinions and just have simple conversation with other cat lovers as well. :)

Today I went out again to a pet place here in Florida. I found Sa-SHI cat food. It only has 4 ingredients. I realize that Siloh still needs the vitamins and minerals that come in the other foods, but I thought this would be nice once in awhile since it's so simple. They only had fish flavors, and I know to stay away from too much fish. I'd be set for life if fish didn't have mercury in it. LOL How easy would that be? lol

I also got Applaws, but only 1 to see if he liked it. Unfortunately, it does have rice, but again, it has 4 ingredients, no gums, carrageenan etc.. so once in awhile for a little treat I think will be fine.

Lastly, I did purchase some RAWZ. It is BPA free, no gums, no carrageenan or anything that I notice is horrible, BUT beware the tuna and chicken recipe does have sunflower oil in it.

I asked the place if they could order me some KOHA in 3 oz cans. I only found 1 place online that sells them in 3 oz cans, but only to retailers. UGH!!! SO ANNOYING! lol

Oh, and I also wanted to ask if anyone has tried Vital Essentials cat food? I wonder if my boy would like that. He does like the fresh pet nibbles, so I'm crossing my fingers, unless you guys see ingredients I didn't that are not any good. <3:wave3:

I agree. I was looking into the Vital Essentials. He might just go for that.

I use vital essentials and my cat likes it. Commercial raw can give some cats constipation because of the higher bone % so be on the lookout for that.

Just note that Sa-shi and most Applaws are not full diets, they are just for supplemental feeding as they are not complete foods :)
Yes, that's why I was saying he would only get it as a little treat. Heck, he might not even like it. LOL He's such a rotten brat!

Personally, I think the menadione issue is overblown based on an inappropriate review of human and rat exposure studies. Human exposure to menadione as a feed ingredient is much different than cat exposure to it as a food ingredient. The method of exposure must be considered. If water had a material safety data sheet, it would probably say that it's fatal if inhaled. The degree of exposure is important too. Toxicity is not absolute but dose-dependent. Botulinum toxin can be fatal but it can also be useful against migraines and wrinkles. There isn't enough menadione in an entire bag of dry food to add up to a toxic dose for a cat.
