That's Reese in a nutshell. I swear it doesn't matter how her dinner is served, it gets everywhere! She shoves everything out of her dishes and smashes it all over the floor. We actually had to get her a mat to eat her food on because she's such a slob. And she comes away with food all over her little chin. The best part? Anything that's smashed into the floor isn't 'food' anymore. We think it's hilarious, because she sits so neatly with her tail tucked around her paws like a prim and proper little lady as she smears wet food into the oddest of places.

What a cutie pie your little Reese is. :catlove: I have to say, after looking at Reese's mess, I can't really complain about the little dried pieces of canned food that end up scattered around my Ruby's dish. ;)

Have you tried different sizes/types of dishes? Here's a recent thread that might have some ideas to try: Bowl, Plate, Floor???

Hi! Does she always have her mouth open like that?
Have you had a vet check her teeth lately? Can she swallow properly?
Can you check her body condition--she may not be consuming enough calories. If you can feel a thin layer (of fat) over her ribs she's ok.

She was meowing at me in the first and licking her lips in the third! She's got quite a bit of padding on her ribs and we are always joking about her big behind. She loves to eat! She's just messy. We think it was because she was separated from her mom so young? She never learned to be tidy.

Haha thank you! I've tried a few different saucers, plates, and bowls. It always ends up everywhere in the end, if only on her face. She definitely prefers a shallower dish too. With bowls and saucers a lot of her food gets piled against the sides and she gives up on it. If I pile it back into the center she's good, she will keep eating.

*Raises paw* Mizu does the same thing. After she eats, I wipe the placemat, the walls, anything else nearby. I've changed her bowls on the chance that it might be that. Nope. She likes to stick her paw into her food and lick it like you would lick a spoon. She pushes it around her dish, out of her dish, shakes the paw to get off any pieces she doesn't feel like licking at that moment. Then she walks through what is on the mat and leaves little meaty paw prints in her wake. I love my cat. :heartshape:

Oh my, that’s definitely a mess! Olive is pretty clean, except that time she wasn’t sure about the raw chicken liver and dipped a claw in and splatee blood on the kitchen floor. I get the picture, no liver for you!

From the piggy noises that Diamond makes when he is eating, you would think there would be a mess! But rarely is there food on the floor. Sometimes I will pet him while he eats just so I can laugh at those piggy noises! Silent laugh, of course! Kitties can be so sensitive.

Wow, I thought my boys were messy!

But in fairness to your cat, the edges of her dish arent shaped to keep the food contained.

My guys do best with bowls with rounded sides. If the sides are 90 degrees the to bottom of the dish, food gets wedged in the corners and the boys cant get their mouths around the food.

It really doesn't matter what I put her food in, somehow it's still going to end up on the walls by the end. I really don't know how she does it! She's just talented.

My Krista flings food when she eats. Not nearly like your Reese. But for this reason, I feed her on the counter. I’d rather clean food off the counter than the floor. At least a couple times a week I’m picking Rad Cat off the coffee maker. Better than stepping in it or inviting the ants.

Well if you ever get frustrated with her, just pass her over to me! Lol

That first picture is hilarious.
Our only slobby cat is the one with IBD, and if he's not feeling 100% he'll eat 90% of his food, then push the rest off the plate and do his best to smear it on the wall, just for us.

I feed the cats on tile floors (in three different rooms because they eat at three different speeds...sigh), and Iris will pick up a mouthful of food and walk three feet to a rug and spit the sloppy mess out. She eats it all (mostly) so she's not really a slob, but why in the world does she want to eat her food from a fuzzy surface?? I've asked her. No answer. :dunno:

Another reason Krista eats on the counter. Because she would also pick it up and go to the carpet.
