Hi. Ive rescued a 8 week old kitten who was riddled with fleas ive bottle fed her for 2 weeks but her sister of the same age is really undernourished and riddled with even more fleas so I've brought her over tonight and my healthy cat seemed ok at first but then started hissing at her poorly sister and im wondering if it's something that is bad or its just that she hasn't seen her for 2 weeks. These are the first kittens ive ever had ive always had dogs. Or is it just my kitten letting her sister no who's boss. I dont want my kitten to hurt her sister. T.i.a

Where does the sister live? Why is no one caring for her?

You should keep the kittens separate until you are sure both are healthy.

They are just frightened, but should feel more comfortable with one another soon.

Both kittens are ready for wet cat food at 8 weeks old as well as dry kitten chow. Please give it to them. Stop bottle feeding now.

You can apply Advantage II for kittens to the back of their necks for the fleas. Please also give them a bath using Dawn dish soap. Do not get it in their eyes, noses, or mouths. Keep the head above water, but create a soap ring around their necks to keep the fleas from all crawling up to their heads.

Getting rid of the fleas is key to their good health, as fleas suck the life out of kittens.

Worry more about feeding and fleas and less about hissing right now. They will become more familiar quickly.

I agree with Sarthur2 Sarthur2 we took in a litter of kittens this summer with severe flea anemia and only one of them made it. Fleas definitely are not an issue to take lightly- especially on younger kittens!

With stop bottle feeding now its to understand, begin NOW to give and learn them this more substantial kitten foods, and to phase out the bottle feeding,
Dont risk they are without food.

You CAN of course have some kmr or goats milk as extra for them. Being malnoutrished by these fleas they need every extra they can get. Some nice vitamine paste may also be useful.

When there comes time for deworming (soon now), it will be not enough with the usual pyrantel preparate. Fleas are also inbetween host for tapeworms, so they must also get dewormer for tapeworm.
I would suggest an all round dewormer alike Drontal or Milbomax.
