That is great, that you talked with the vet. Does he want to see her as well, to check that the antibiotic drops are working? Is he far away from you? Now that you are oin contact woith a vet, maybe your mother will agree to a visit.
He said he doesn't think that he has to see her, seeing as she's active, playing and eating okay and doesn't seem 'critical'. He said the inflammation (apparently the lumps on her ear were inflammation due to the infection?? Is this a common thing??) should go down if the medicine works, and they have! She's also not screaming at all if I touch them, and I can actually start to see inside her ear again! :-) If she's not at least 50% better by Thursday-ish we'll take her in :-) And no he's not very far at all!! I think he's about 10-20 minutes from my place?? Maybe a little bit more, but it's not as far as the University (it would've taken us like an hour to get the University if we opted to go!!)

I'm really excited that we've finally got proper treatment for her though!! Hopefully everything will go according to plan and her infection will clear out by the end of the week :-)

That is very good news that the lumps are going down and she is more comfortable. Keep testing her and continue with the drops! oes her hearing seem OK? Sometimes with very bad ear infection a cat can go deaf, though it is not always permanent.

No, her heating seems to be fine! My neighbours occasionally let off fire-crackers at random times in the day (god knows why it's so scary to hear a loud noise in the middle of nowhere) and she jumps and runs under the bed whenever she hears them, so I'm guessing her hearing is alright. She comes when I make a kissing-noise at her too, and occasionally when I call her name :-)

So maybe this new vet will help with speutering the furry horde? That's wonderful that little Sparrow is getting better. She is so adorable. I would want to kiss and cuddle her sweet face all day long!
I'll ask him about it!! Because so many of the people over here want animals to 'keep what they were born with' I'll have to see how much he charges for it. If it's more expensive than the University one, then I guess we'll just have to go to the University!

I'll get some pictures in tomorrow!! :-)

I also have a little problem - nothing too serious, I don't think, it's just something behavioural. I noticed this morning that whenever Sparrow goes to pee, Butty will NOT leave her alone! He's sniffing at her tail and her butt and her head, and once she's done with her pee, he'll rub his nose in it and give it a few licks! :/ It's pretty gross to atch lmao, is there anyway I can 'train' him to stop doing it, or is he just getting used to her scent or something like that?

At a guess, I would say that he is realising she is female, and that she is coming into heat. He can sense the change in hormones and he finds it very attractive! Watch her very carefully for signs of that, like lifting her tail, rubbing against things and being more affectionate than usual. Then she will start calling. If you get any of those signs, separate her at once from the boys, and talk to the vet about getting her spayed. Really, the sooner she is done now the better, though if she is coming into heat, you may have to wait till the first cycle is over.

I agree with all of the above.  I would be very cautious, and very concerned about them interacting at all.

Sparrow's dose of ear-drops ended yesterday (apparently you shouldn't continue them for more than a week otherwise adverse affects will be seen??) Anyway, the infection is back and I'm utterly confused. I've been looking at pictures of otitis etc. and it looks nothing like that! Yeah, her skin is a little swollen (not red though, it's the same colour as her 'norma' skin, a little pinkish-white) and the 'lumps' are still there, but it isn't itchy and inflamed and she isn't scratched more than the 'normal' amount, as far as I can see (and I'm home all day!!)

The actual discharge itself is like a pale yellow, but there's also this dark-brown flaky stuff that sticks aorund the entrance to her ear. It's kind of a scab like consistency, and I'm confused as to what it is. Could it be mites? Though if it WAS mites I'm pretty sure they'd be dead by now seeing as I've tried so many medication lmaooo, and wouldn't her other ear have it too? Also it'd be on my other cats too if it WAS mites. I don't think it's transferrable either, because my boys don't have it! All of this is really confusing I was really sure the ear-drops would work

One thing I have noted is that the lump behind her ear (the one that's kind of under her skin) is still the exact same size. It hasn't gone down at all, maybe just a little thicker. The only thing that makes sense to me is that THIS could be what's causing it all. I think a few users said it could be an abcess? Would the abcess 'leak' somehow, and cause the pus to come out of the ear? Aren't abcesses only caused by infected bite wounds?

And on top of that I think it could maybe be a polyp -- I can't think of anything else it could be apart from an abcess or a polyp! But would a poly make a lump underneath the skin somehow? None of you would know anyone who's had any experience with recurring ear infections would you? It'd be a great help if you could tag them in this or tell me their username so I can send them a PM :-(

I honestly think that she needs to go in to the clinic, but Mum would probably just say 'there's no need' and try and sort things out over the phone. EURGH this is all so frustrating.

At this point I would think the vet will want to examine Sparrow. Let Mom tell the vet he/she is wrong.;)

Yes, Sparrow definitely needs to see the Vet at this time. Can you just call to make an appointment, then tell your mom that you talked to the Vet and he wants to see her?

I know it is a lie, but it is a little white lie, done for something good. This is a time when you have to be a conniving as our mom...

or just lose it with your mom...

Good luck..((hugs))

It's not a lie if she makes the appointment. I'm sure if she tells the vet what's happening he'll want to see her, if he's a good vet. Go girl.

Sorry I've been gone for so long!! I was revising for my SAT 2 test and have started an academy because Mum wants me to try out for the MCAT.

Anyway!! Sparrow's ear is doing much better, she just has a little bit of a wax problem (her wax accumulates VERY quickly). Her ear is still slightly abnormally formed though there's no more pus and it's been days since we stopped the medication. The lump is also going, in fact it's pretty much almost gone! :-)

The boys have also learnt that she doesn't want them to bite her or paw at her, she's VERY stubborn and has a really big temper lmaooo. She doesn't let Indie anywhere near her and if he comes to her she'll start spitting at him. She's fine to cuddle up to him while he's asleep though lmaooo. She ADORES Butty though, and I always catch them giving each other baths :-) I'm being careful though, and they're separated during night just in case! It's all going good though! She hasn't come on heat yet, either though. The boys still like to lick wherever she's been? Like if she sits somewhere Indie'll go and sniff at the place and lick at it and he'll look at me with his lips slightly parted and his eyes all squinty like he's about to sneeze lmaooo

There's just one thing I'm a little concerned about, she still seems a little skinny? Her bones aren't showing or anything and I can't feel her ribs when I stroke her, but again I'm so used to kittens being all podgy but she's very slim and fit, like Indie is at the moment! She eats lots though and is VERY active (in fact, I hardly ever see her sleeping!) is there anything I can do to fatten her up? Mum managed to get some pure fat from the butcher today, so would this be safe to feed her in small amounts? I tried her on a little bit and she seemed to like it a lot!! :-0 I got another bag of cat kibble yesterday, and tried her on that. But again, she doesn't seem to register that it's food at all, and would much rather gobble down her raw meat!!

Another thing, she REALLY loves honey, is this safe to give her as a treat every so often?? Like twice a week or something??

She looks a lot bigger.  Perhaps she is skinny because she is growing and all her food is going to muscles and not fattening her up. Most kittens don't fatten up until 8 months to a year.

Have you seen this chart?

http://www.wsava.org/sites/default/files/Body%20condition%20...

This link goes to the site but not the chart.  I googled cat body fat chart and it came up with a PDF chart showing the view of the cat from the top.  It should be on this site some where. . .  You will enjoy this website I think.
