for today's Question of the Day, let's talk about......
TV Shows: Of the Past, Present, and Future --
The Past --
What have been some of your favorite TV shows? Any that you didn't enjoy?
Any TV shows of the past that you wish were still running (making new episodes)?
Is there a genre (type) of TV show that you liked the most? (like crime drama, sci-fi, comedy, home improvement, reality, etc)
The Present --
What are some of your favorite TV shows (that are still making new episodes)? Any that you really don't like?
How about remakes of older TV shows? Have you watched any? What did you think of them?
Have your preferences changed, as to what genre (type) of TV show you enjoy the most?
The Future --
Are there any TV shows (of the present) that you'd enjoy continuing to see (to make new episodes)?
How about new genre(s) (types) of TV shows that you'd like to see?
Any TV shows you would like to see -- based on a book, movie, comic book, anime, etc? or even based on a totally new, original idea?
i'll start!
there are a couple TV series/shows that i really enjoyed, and wish they had continued being aired on TV. i really liked NBC's Monday Night at the Movies, which ran up until 1999 on and off, and during that time the day of the week it aired changed quite a few times. i loved the NBC Mystery Movies that aired on sunday nights, and sometimes aired two different shows each week -- on sunday and wednesday nights. this was the show that rotated which series they aired weekly, between Columbo, McCloud, and McMillan & Wife. some other TV shows that i remember enjoying were the original Hawaii Five-O series, and Adam 12. i also very much enjoyed watching the Benny Hill Show, and Are You Being Served -- though by the time i was watching those they were reruns. oh, and Doctor Who which is probably one of the longest running TV series and which is stilling making new episodes to this today. i remember watching Doctor Who at 1 am, the middle of the night for a young teen.
i'd have to say the TV shows from the past that stick in my mind as ones i didn't like were the soap operas and talk shows. i saw enough of soap operas when i was home during the summer vacations, because my mom followed a few different ones. just about everything imaginable could and did happen in the soap operas. i just didn't like anything about talk shows.
i think that any of the old or really old TV shows i enjoyed, if they had continued making new episodes, would have changed over time to a point that the show more than likely wouldn't have remained a favorite of mine.
crime drama was one of my favorite genres, though i have eclectic tastes.
theses days my favorite shows are Bones, Building Wild, iZombie, and Orphan Black. i like Murdock Mysteries, NCIS, Person of Interest, Criminal Minds, Burn Notice, Covert Affairs, Suits, and White Collar too.
there are so many TV shows that i don't like these days. i don't like Dancing with the Stars, The Voice, or any of those type shows at all. i used to enjoy watching Hawthorne, but at a certain point it became very much like a soap opera and so i stopped watching it. i really liked Being Human too, but at a certain point they lost me -- where the ghost characters were eating people. nope, and just nope, don't need to see that.
i think the only remake of a TV series that i've seen is the remake of Hawaii Five-O. my mom and i were talking about it a while back. she said it wasn't as good as the original Hawaii Five-O and i agreed, but i also told mom that i didn't think they'd ever have been able to make it as good as the original. and compared to the current TV shows 'out there', the Hawaii Five-O remake is really a very good show.
i still enjoy crime dramas very much, but i also like fast-moving, lots of action and excitement TV shows.
i'd enjoy continuing to see new episodes of my current favorite TV shows. but there have also been some very good new TV shows relatively recently, and i hope that trend (of decent new TV series) continues.
i'd like to see more shows with a steampunk theme to them. there's one show that has that (new episodes are still being made) -- Murdock Mysteries. really a good show.
how about you?
