Feeding a cat with dental pain

Thanks! This sounds similar to what I am planning. I am fortunate that Twyla is unbelievably easy to pill - I kneel on the floor with her between my knees, dip her filled gelcap of multiple meds into a little bit of Temptation purée and pop it in. Her gabapentin tablets are chicken flavored and...

Feeding a cat with dental pain

Anyone have any tips for feeding a cat with chronic dental pain? Twyla has a painful tooth but extraction is too high risk due to her multiple health conditions, which include stage 3 kidney disease and a heart murmur, among other things. She will be starting twice daily gabapentin to see if...

    Am I overreacting?

Back from vet. As I suspected she does indeed have a painful upper tooth. Given her age and myriad health conditions extraction is not an option (she had an extraction and cleaning a little over a year ago and we knew that would probably be the last time). So we are going back to regular use...

    Am I overreacting?

Twyla has a vet appointment at 10 tomorrow, things aren’t getting any better and I don’t want to get stuck in an emergency over the weekend. Her Young Again food came and she ate about 10-12 pieces but then stopped.

    Geoffrey Small Cell Lymphoma

I am so sorry that you lost your sweet Geoffrey. I don’t think I’ve ever posted on this thread, but I visited whenever there was a new post and admired your sweet boy. You did such a great job caring for him and giving him a good life. I have lost a cat in a similar way and it is a very...

    Am I overreacting?

I think she got about 3/4 of her target calories yesterday, not too bad, but it took coaxing and many small feedings. Going a little slower so far today. I’m noticing that her mouth gets really messy when she’s eating (I sometimes need to wipe her chin) so I am wondering about dental pain or...

Should I be concerned about muscle atrophy?

I would probably go ahead and do bloodwork now. The muscle wasting and weight loss could be related to hyperthyroidism, for example, and it is better to catch that sooner than later. If everything looks good you will have a good baseline for what’s normal as she ages and has subsequent tests.

    Am I overreacting?

No picture of her helping out but here she is snoozing last week. I am keeping an eye on the sneezing - It does seem to happen when she’s eating.

    Am I overreacting?

She gained about half a pound after she had a dental extraction last year and weighed 12 pounds six ounces at her heaviest. She has been hovering just above or below 12 pounds for the past three months or so. I was attributing some of the recent loss to losing muscle mass because of the lower...

    Am I overreacting?

I keep telling myself to not freak out when this happens, and have been fairly successful, but none of my usual tricks seem to be working this time, especially the Mirataz.I’m going to stick with different food options today and pick up a couple other options. If I don’t see some improvement in...

    Am I overreacting?

I don’t know what’s going on. Does she just dislike all the low phosphorus options she’s been eating? She loved the first bag of prescription ocean fish dry and now will not touch it (or her Hills 11+ which she also loved). Temptations? Yes. Hooper’s Purina One Tender Selects? Yes! But now...

Dental issues in senior cat w/ heart murmur

Can you supplement her food with puree treats or meat baby food (plain puréed chicken, ham or turkey, no garlic or onion) to get a few more calories in? The ultrasound is an excellent idea, my elderly cat had one after her murmur was detected and we were able to determine it was OK to proceed...

    Am I overreacting?

Continuing to struggle with feeding issues. She’ll be great for a week or two and then….not. Mirataz sometimes really seems to work and then not at all. Her weight has dipped below 12 pounds for the first time in over a year, not drastically, but a drop. I think she is also dealing with...

    AeroKat for Cats

GoodRX is OK for the inhaler but you can get even better prices if you use an overseas pharmacy, if your vet is willing. I use Northwest Pharmacy. You do have to upload your prescription and factor in shipping time but the savings are significant - currently a 120 dose generic version is around...

    Am I overreacting?

I’m happy to report that Twyla is eating much better. I had been noticing that her arthritis was making her a bit stiff and uncomfortable so I reintroduced a low daily dose of gabapentin (which I had been giving before she started Solensia over a year ago). It seems to be giving her relief and...
