Yes, A lot of people think it's only 2 to 3 years. They can actually live up to a really long time (up to 15 years), but most people put them in fish bowls. Which are too small for them and doing so stunts their growth causing them to die faster. That's why I like tanks better. More space and easier to clean.

I also don't know a lot about fish but, I know the correct basics. My best friend has always had fish so she helps me learn and improve if I am making a mistake. So I can fix it.
