Hi All,

I thought I had a great rotation for my kitties. One of the foods included is Ziwi Peak.

Well, I was just taking another look at the ingredients and the Venison flavor has "dried kelp" in it. Is that a way to sneak in carrageenan? I hope not because that was one of the better foods that I fed them more often along with Feline Natural.

Does anyone know anything about this? If not, I'll email them and come back with an answer.

Thanks

I can't remember now if it was ziwipeak I'd emailed or another company, but there is a different kelp in use by some manufacturers that isn't carrageenan. Thats only sort of helpful, I know...:)

I had a cat who just passed away from IBD. I was trying to avoid carageenan too, and it's so hard. I wonder if another flavor of Ziwi wouldn't have that in it. I would think about contacting the company or giving something else to the cat.

I am so sorry for your loss Timmer. I understand how you feel. We're the ones that are choosing what to feed them and if something happens to our kitties we feel completely responsible. My last kitty died of kidney failure. I was completely ignorant in terms of food quality but I really want to get it right this time. And to be honest it's driving me crazy. I'll think I have it right and then I read that sodium selenite or copper sulfate is toxic.

I will contact Ziwi and advise back. It's so hard to find a good cat food and if this is one I'm we all want it on our rotation.

Thanks Georgia. Sorry for your loss due to kidney failure. I had a kitty die from that too but she was diagnosed so late, she only lived three weeks after the diagnosis. Yes, I wanted to find something good for Timmer. Actually I found a brand called Dave's and that sounds like a silly name but he loved it and it was highly rated. Grain free and very limited ingredients.
The problem with the IBD was the GI specialist told me do NOT have him on a grain free diet. It's too much protein for someone with digestive issues.
The last days of his life I was feeding him Purina Pro Plan canned sole, and he liked it. It had guar gum in it. Not great but.... He never liked the Nature's Instinct rabbit or duck. Wouldn't touch it.
