Many times Dusty, we have members come in brand new that found a litter of kittens under their house, or in a shed or something, but the mom is in the picture as well. Some people say that they would take the kittens away from mom, no matter the age and try to trap the mom later, while others claim that the kittens need to stay with mom even if it is outside because they will get better care-

What are your thoughts?

This is another tough call. I think it depends on the situation.

A couple of years ago animal control asked me to take a mom cat. She wasn't a nice cat, probably feral. I declined because she had ringworm and there was no way to treat her. Since the RW was just on her back, they asked me to take her newborns. I did--reluctantly. If I hadn't, they would have been doomed.

I hate to take the babies away, but if you don't start socializing them at three weeks, you're going to have anothe litter of feral kittens. And in six or seven months, the problem is going to increase expontenially because those kittens are going to have a litter of kittens.
