It was just after sun rise. Hidey was on the trunk of a car which was covered in dew and ash from the forest fires. As I walked by she called out to me to pet her. She was pushing hard against my hand which caused her feet to slip out from under her and she fell on her side. Immediately she started to growl and hiss and swinging her paw with extended claws. I stood back and told her "You slipped. You lost your footing. I didn't do anything to you." She got over it quickly.

This is the first time that she has shown any aggression toward me.

I figured that she felt vulnerable and needed to protect herself.

My kitten did a similar thing, managed to get himself all wrapped up in a knitted throw with holes in and freaked when I tried to get him free, and gave me a nasty cut on my hand. I think it is just them having a little panic, though. Must be confusing!

Hope the forest fires don't get too close to you and your kitty!

The fire was about 30 miles away. Surprised that the ash made it this far. It is raining hard now. The fire should be out soon.
