Update: turns out she is HIGHLY allergic to dust mites and storage mites! We've made a.bunch of changes in her environment and give her half a zyrtec at night.
Hi! Would you mind telling me how quickly you were able to resolve the allergies for your kitty? What steps did you take to reduce the mites? Did you try other antihistamines? I am having allergy issues with my girl and thought tacking dust mites couldnt hurt while we wait out the food trial.

So oddly enough we went through 2 antihistamines, apoquel, pred, and a whole host of other things. Nothing worked except a bath every two days! My vet had consulted some specialists and the options were getting very limited with worse side effects.
Them she asked what HAS worked and I said that I thought the baths were the only thing that seemed to help. So she is still on zertec because I think that did some good and baths every two days. She has a prescription shampoo which doesn't dry her skin out.
As far as mite issues. Storage mites can be helped by putting food in airtight storage containers and freezing 24 hours prior to consumption. Dust mites mean that we had to put sheets on all the furniture. Weekly we have to change all the bedding, sheets, etc and sanitize them. All nicknacks and photo frames have been removed and placed in storage so I can dust daily much easier. Still dust mite bedding has been bought. Everything is pretty sterile and obsessively cleaned.

Im so glad she is feeling better! :hearthrob: My kitty is back on steroids because she was just getting to such a bad point. We are trying a hydrolyzed diet for now and I am hopeful. How quickly did you see results from zyrtec? That is an antihistamine we havent tried, so if we dont have any luck with the food, that might be our next plan. What sort of shampoo do you use?

I am still not 100% on if the zyrtec is working, but at this point I am afraid to change anything. She is still itchy, but it isn't as bad, she doesn't sound like Darth Vader anymore, and she isn't crying all the time. We use this shampoo.i think it is prescription

Thank you! I’ll ask my vet about it. I’m not sure Peach would be easy to bathe but at this point I will try anything!
