I have finally discovered a wet food Molly likes! Even better, she likes it enough to eat it in my presence!
For a bit of background, Molly is VERY cuddle motivated, to the point that I have never had a successful play session with her, because she ignores the toy and rubs on my hands or legs until I give up and pet her. She will, very rarely, eat one to two bites of kibble in the middle of a long petting session, or when I stop cuddle time to clean her litter box, but she has zero interest in treats or food I put out for her when there is the possibility of petting.
Now that the weather is cold and rainy and food left out in her catio won't spoil or dry out so fast, I've started putting out small portions of wet food for her to see if I can convince her to try it so I can expand her diet and get some more moisture into what she eats. I've determined that she'll eat some things, if I leave them out at night and take up her kibble, but some things she won't touch even then.
First success was a Friskies Lil Soups in the salmon flavor, sprinkled with her kibble. Sheba chicken pate was a no-go, it got a sniff and then was ignored even when left out overnight. Sheba roasted chicken cuts in gravy sprinkled with kibble was ignored when I put it down, but eaten when left out. Today I decided it was cool enough to put out a serving of Sheba salmon cuts in gravy, and I was debating if I should sprinkle kibble on it or not when Molly just dove right in.
Apparently Molly LOVES Sheba's salmon recipe. She ate so fast she had to stop in the middle and cough and make hairball sounds before apparently getting over it and scarfed the rest, purring like crazy. There was her favorite kibble right in the dish not four inches away, so she wasn't starving, and she actually ignored me leaving the catio as well, another first. So it seems I've finally hit on something she really, REALLY likes.
I've been avoiding most fish and seafood recipes until this last week when I decided to just try whatever and see if she liked anything, as I recall reading that seafood cat foods weren't very good for cats, as much as they tend to like them. But seeing how much she loved that salmon recipe, I have to ask, how bad is it? Or is it fine after all, or...?
