My misty(1 year 4 month spayed female) I have been concerned about for some time- and infact I think I have a couple posts here. But the vet cleared her..

I started a few months ago, she became louder (speaking a lot when she never used to)..she was once the most active of my two and she became very lazy. At that time I also noticed a few things that were different about her, whether important or not; She always hangs out sitting ontop of her litter box, she hardly eats, her ribs are very visable, her hates her brother and always hisses at him and growls at him, she doesn't want to play with him or toys (but will play with catnip and toys on strings no prob), she crys if I hold her and she doesn't want to be held, her poops stink and she is was shedding a ton but that has subsided.

I brought them into the vet for their annual plus to address her and the vet cleared them and cleared their fecal.. he said she was fine and didn't want any more tests. (this vet is the highest rating vet here and I and people i know have had good experience with them also)

That was a few weeks back.. yesterday she threw up in the morning.. it was white/ clear foamy with nothing in it.. she never throws up- diago does about once a month for hairball but not her.

We gave her hairball stuff in case it was a stuck hairball or something before we left for work and got back later and I checked and found no messes...but as it was watery it could have dried probably.. don't know. Shortly after she threw up again on the same spot, the same clear liquid with a little whitish foam.

This morning no throw up but she didn't touch her breakfast.. didn't even come to see...normally she runs over to see, looks and has a bit, then leaves.

Diago her brother is fine.. Any ideas?

I wouldn't be feeling happy. However confident I was about my vet I'd be calling them to say what's happening and asking for another appointment.

I take it there's no sign of a sore mouth or throat at all, or unusual smell about her?

As for no evidence of the throw up when  you come back in, I get this when my cats have been trying to bring up a fur ball, and with Mouse sometimes when he's just not feeling right with his FHV thing and been coughing but it usually leaves a little residue on the floor where the foam has been. I have floorboards but if you have carpet it might not be so easy to check.

Good luck, you must be very worried about her.

I have hardwood, she just choice a small rug to do it on. I didn't see any residue but the lighting in my living room is crummy anyways. I am quite worried about her now, im just hoping she is alright for a little bit.. My stupid car broke and cant be fixed until next week, and my vet is on the other side of the border so a taxi isn't an option. At what point would you suggest it may be a 'get a taxi and take her into emergency' on my side of the border thing? we stuggle financially but I always make sure the make the money available for whatever my cats need.. so basically I don't have the money to throw out running her into emerg. when its not nessesary, but I do have the money if it means saving her(we are saving for a new car as I think mine probably will die in the months to come and then ill be in serious doo-doo lol) *Just wanted to explain that so no one worried the cats weren't in a cared for home :)

Also, no evidence of pain or discomfort or coughing or eye/nose issues or smell other than her butt.

They said that the vet wants to see her. I said my situation and asked for more info because they must have ideas if they want to postpone other people appointments and see me and all they said was her fecal was clear.. uh, I know that.

They wouldn't give me any ideas of what they are concerned about and said if she isn't drinking its bad basically but I don't think that she is not drinking, I deffinatly saw her drink last night and my two drink a lot.

I told them I would see how she is when I get home and if she is drinking see how she is over the weekend and make an appointment for her next week, but bring her in to emerge if I see any 'bad changes' or if it turns out she is not drinking.. I asked for guidance on anything else to look out for other than the obvious 'more vomiting' and they didn't tell me anything. They seamed mad that I didn't go in right this second.. they would be closed by the time I could get there, IF I could. (find someone willing to drive me(unlikely), then get there (1.5 hours from here not including stopping to get her or customs))

Now i'm just worried as heck and it could just be a hairball and her reaching adulthood (as in maybe she will just be a moody adult and not a playful kitten anymore)...Shes probably at home playing with the darn dog cage even. I lock their string toy in there because they are obsessed with it and they climb all over the cage trying to free their toy..

wow im posting too much.. but upon googling I noticed something else I should note; she pooped last night which was after the throwing up. She poops once a day so there should be one this evening too. people on google kept mentioning blockages if the cat wasn't pooping.

I would be concerned too.   and I'm surprised the vet would so lightly dismiss  her anorexia,  losing weight / condition/ coat,  lethargy, crying when you hold her if she did not used to do that.

The vomiting clear liquid with whitish foam is stomach acid.  sometimes that can just be from not eating.  ( and it can be a vicious circle)

She might be helped by famotidine  ( a well known brand name is Pepcid AC -  NOT any other kind of Pepcid .  it has to be the "AC") . You could try 2.5   mg   twice a day before meals.   That can help improve appetite if the problem is acid indigestion.

Of course this does not explain the cause. it's  just treating a symptom.

It does sound like she has some health problem.   could be anything from a problem with teeth/ gums/  mouth sores  ,  to kidney disease or pancreatitis  or other things.

Some of the things that came to mind that fit some of the symptoms -- like kidney disease -- are much more common in older cats.  though they can happen in young cats too.    It doesn't show up in the basic blood tests until they have lost over 70% of kidney function.

Was she ever tested for Feline Leukemia?

Oh, thinking of you. It's horrid when they're sick and you don't know what you can do. It really is surprising that a vet who wasn't concerned about her before when she was already presenting with lots of changes and signs that she has now wants her rushed in. Well they're worried now, no doubt added to by the fact that it looks like they probably missed something the last time you were there. You can only do what can within your resources and surely the vets should take in to consideration that people have to travel long distances to get to them - also in their advice to you when they send you off after a consultation.  Maekaew's advice sounds very helpful and I hope you you can get this Pepcid AC and it settles her symptoms a bit until you can get back to the vet.

I will go look for it at walmart if she continues with the vomiting- it didn't happen this morning and I left the food out since she didn't eat so that she can help herself. Im going to check that link out after I write this too, thankyou Maekaew. Yeah It sounds bad but I was unhappy there was nothing wrong with her at the visit because i'm mom, and I know she isn't herself.

The vet told me her weight- 7 lb and I said " wow, she lost a pound then because she was 8lb a couple months ago when I last weighed her" and she didn't comment or anything. when this problem first started was when we moved back into my house that was being renovated.. they lived in it has young kittens but then I lived with my parents for about half a year or so. At the same time they started eating wellness core original. That was when she started eating less and being noisey. They ate wellness kitten threw kittenhood- then natures variety instinct chicken, then the wellness. I thought maybe she didn't like it but she wasn't going for wet much either. After that we switched to natures variety instinct rabbit (expensive but different and maybe it would interest her) i buy the biggest bags that last my guys forever so it lasts a while before I switch each time and I change over about 2 weeks.. still hardly eating and miserable with diago most of the time (not always) and hanging around her litter box.. next I changed back to natures variety instinct chicken with raw chunks and she would eat the raw chunks first then the food and she was more interested though definitely not eating as much as she should. that's what they are eating now and she lost interest after the first couple days.. I put the food out and call them and they come and diago eats and she has like a couple bites and leaves.. she will come back for a few more bites again after a half hour and then it is put away. I feed three meals and she usually comes and takes a few bites two times each. She always comes running and yells for me to hurry up and is so excited and then turns her nose up (did with all the other foods too). The odd thing is.. at my parents she was actually a little pot bellied, ate a ton, and was super happy.. and they were locked up in my room there because mom is allergic.. My house she should be much happier.. more company and freedom and space. Could it be some sort of weirdo depression?

MServant, that's what I always think.. its a pain for me to use them but they are cheaper than using a vet on my side of the border plus they are the highest rated vet in the city on the usa side.. everyone is always so happy with them but I don't feel like they think about how far away I am. They didn't even tell me my fecal results.. I had to ask when they tried to get me to pay.. "uhm, I had a fecal you charged me for.. the results please?" and she like "oh, um... yes they were clear" with out even looking. I spoke to someone else then and they looked it up and said they were both clear. Ugh.

I would definitely get her to the vet sooner rather than later.  As you know, something is not right and needs to be figured out quickly so that she can be helped and you can have peace of mind.  If you don't get the answers you need from your vet, take her to another vet for a second opinion.  Sometimes you might have to go to 3 or 4 vets before you get to the bottom of what's going on.

Well there are only three across the river but one has awful awfull reviews.. I mean cats dieing and cases open against them kinda thing. The other one I dislike because its all carpeted and doesn't seam clean to me but has no reviews so maybe is ok.

I cant see a vet on my side of the border unless I lie.. Vets here will NOT under any circumstance look at a cat that has been seeing a USA vet.. don't know why, but it is stupid. I know of people who warned me of this after they got their kitten shots in USA because the vets here will turn down emergencies also. If I had an emergency and needed to see a vet fast (meaning here in Canada) I would have to say I have just adopted the cat and don't know their prior vet.. and thus they would get revaccinated per law and the clinics requirements.

Im weary of the carpeted vet because of fleas and frankly they must know its not clean so why not change it? but I suppose I could bring her there for a second opinion as apposed to possibly 'wasting' time on my vet again..

Have you used this vet before (knowing they're carpeted) or have you seen photos on line or know other people who use them?  Thinking that as they don't have any bad on line reviews may be this is a better bet than not getting Misty seen: it is a second opinion if nothing else.  (And presumably closer to get to if your car issues don;t get sorted)

Its actually right beside my other vet lol, but good for second opinion. Yeah I saw it- looked dirty. I was with a friend when she took her dog in.. all carpet and a huge carpet cat tree with tons of cats and birds all around. I have no reason to KNOW they are dirty.. just looks dirty lol. but great news just came!!

I tried calling a vet on my side of the border.. there are tons, and I have called many before choosing a vet.. I called three and found one that I must have missed before that will accept new clients that were previously vetted in USA.. and for some odd reason their fecal test is 16 compared to 26 at my vet (though every other service they offer is more).

So ill make her a file and bring her in Monday (on the weekend if she gets worse, Monday if she is doing OK). Im also going to bring them in to the vet on our side for their yearly checkup and for their "issues" when they come up which will make things a lot easier for me. I only do vaccines every three years and will use my old vet for vaccines and surgeries, and use the new one for fecals and checkups. Im ecstatic!

Thankyou MServant and Maekaew for giving me the itch to check other vets out- you guys rock.

Ill keep this thread updated if anything changes (better or worse) for mist, and let you guys know how the vet goes.. im going home in 1.5 hours to see her.

Fingers and paws crossed for your weekend, and a new vet who can give you some answers. If not, remember what Stephanietx said, sometimes it can take 3 or 4 (though we hope it won't). Do not feel bad about chasing anyone when you need answers for Misty. Cats can't speak, sometimes we need to be their advocates and shout louder than we usually would.
