Hug 'Em while you got 'em. You never know how long they'll be around.
Appreciate what you got!
Appreciate what you got!
Never borrow from or lend money to a friend, it alters the relationship,
you may not think so, but it does ...
even if loan is repaid in a timely manner, something in the sphere changes
( I know many will disagree, saying that that's what friends are for etc,
maybe so, and you'll remain friends, but there will be a subtle change in attitude,
especially if it happens morthan once)
Yes, I was taught same, if they're real friend then you know their circumstances and they know yours, I've helped many people with groceries, petsitting, shopping etc but rarely with cash, it's just too awkward if I need to ask for it back in order to get by myselfMy Mom & Dad taught me from when I was quite young to never lend anyone money, not from your point of view..... give it to them and don't expect it back
They say "A friend in need is a friend indeed"
My Dad said ' With a friend indeed there is never a need"
Yep,I agree, unfortunately my little friend group and I are all in the same boat nowadays- lolYes, I was taught same, if they're real friend then you know their circumstances and they know yours, I've helped many people with groceries, petsitting, shopping etc but rarely with cash, it's just too awkward if I need to ask for it back in order to get by myself
Speaking of laughing out loud, this one was my favorite. So many good ones here and some made me laugh out loud.
"Don't eat yellow snow!"
Never heard that before- what does it mean to a person? I don't get the jokeI have one that's also a parrot joke:
'The bird in the mirror has always been you.'
LOL.. NP! I can explainNever heard that before- what does it mean to a person? I don't get the joke
I must need coffee,lol
Oh okay- I know what people use mirrors for with birds, poor birds usually stresses them out.....I just didn't know what it meant for people, now I get it..LOL.. NP! I can explain
Many birds usually don't know if the bird in the mirror is them or not. Especially the smaller parrots. They will get into fights with it, have romantic relations with it, and even become best buds with it. To them, it's just another bird.
What it means to a person is: ' look at yourself and try to understand that things aren't always what they seem'
I did not know that! Very cool!Btw,since you're a bird lover.... did you know that studies indicate Magpies( no other bird species,so far to date) recognize the reflection as themselves..... pretty incredible, isn't it
I love Magpies-I had a favorite place to go in Perth to watch them
I did not know that! Very cool!
and Coffee makes the world go 'round
I grew up with a " Desiderata" plaque in our foyer...Okay so this one is in a poem... it's lines and lines of wisdom.
I don't put many things up around my house on the walls, but this poem sat in the farmhouse I grew up in, and has come with me no matter where I was, or where I traveled. It is, to me, words to live by in every aspect. It has gotten me through a lot.
You never know when someone needs to hear something... so I will share...
Desiderata:
This is the original text from the book where Desiderata was first published.
Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

It is an amazing piece of wisdom.I grew up with a " Desiderata" plaque in our foyer...
Sounds like my Dad- all the things he would say to me all the time through out his life.....I remember when I changed my profession and said to my Dad,I'm sorry I wasted all those years ( referencing my course of studies and education ) ---- you've wasted nothing, knowledge and education is never wasted and he said ' you'll see'.It is an amazing piece of wisdom.
"If you are the smartest person in the room, then you're in the wrong room."
The other piece of advice / wisdom I would give anyone is to never stop learning as no education is ever wasted.
Every year I take a class on something I know nothing about. It's very random. I think it keeps the mind fresh, gives you a different perspective, and invites the opportunity to be surrounded by people that are different from you. People that in most of your day to day life you wouldn't normally be exposed to.
