Why does my cat put his butt on his toys?

My one year old cat has this weird thing he does when he is playing..he tries to place his toys directly under his butt and sits or lays on it. Then after a few seconds, he jumps up and attacks it. Idk if it's a sent thing oR what. It's not an issue, but I've always been curious if other people's cats do this.

That's a new one for me!  It sounds like playing; he's "subduing" his prey and then attacking it again?

Asha's a couple of months younger than your boy. She likes lying on her 'prey' part way through a game too. It's so funny to watch. It's nice to see her enjoying herself

My cat does that, too!!! He'll fight with the mouse, and then 'sit' on it! It's even funnier when I'm the one dragging the mouse around and he tries to sit on my hand ^_^

We just finished up a game of "crouching kitty, hidden mouse".

He could be trying to mark it with his scent to let everyone know that it's his and then checking it to make sure the "aroma" is good and strong. 

Sophie just sticks her butt in my face when I'm sleeping.
