White specks in cat’s hairball and poop

I found white specks in our cat Ruby’s hairball/poop. See picture below. Her diet consists of Hill’s Z/D hydrolyzed food (dry and wet) with a powder l-lysine supplement. Ruby had fleas about a month ago. Could this be worms from the fleas or something different? We were thinking of bringing a stool sample to the vet (she was at the vet last week for a check up).

It does t look like tapeworm segments to me.

Hi. Is Ruby eating the same food and getting the same lysine powder as she was before you started seeing the white specks? A food/supplement change could explain the specks, or even an ingredient change if she is eating the same stuff as before. It wouldn't hurt to have a stool sample checked over by the vet, just in case.

Hey! I was just researching this myself, as my cat is also on Hills z/d Wet/Dry mix and I have begun to notice the presence of white specks in his hairballs. I have read that it's potentially a type of fiber, and even heard of it being rice. I don't know the legitimacy to these claims, but just wanted to reach out and say my cat is experiencing it too, on the exact same food.
