Hello everyone! As many of you already know on here, my cat Pixie has had a couple of difficult months overcoming bacterial pneumonia. The infection is completely gone, but the last x-rays showed what looked like asthma to the vet (Dr. Mac). Dr. Mac sent the x-rays to the radiologist, and the results came back as fibrosis of the lungs. Basically, this means tissue in the airways and lungs have thickened and hardened and formed scar tissue, so his lungs do not expand at full capacity like a cat with healthy lungs. Pixie is also FIV positive, so we are always monitoring him as he has dealt with a lot of health issues since rescuing him. Dr. Mac says this explains why his breathing always sounds "tubular" when she listens to his chest. He is on prednisolone for now to keep the inflammation down, and she gave us instructions on how to eventually wean him off of it as he has been taking it for almost 9 weeks now. She also talked about us getting a consultation with a specialist, like a veterinary cardiologist or internal medicine specialist. She is going to do some searching for a specialist in the area as she wants to work with and communicate with the specialist, whoever that may be, to manage the fibrosis and breathing problems before it gets fatal. Does anyone on here have a cat with any type of fibrosis at all? If so, what was your experience? Thank you in advance
