It could be anything, from something that has always been there and you didn't notice before, like you say, or something that has evolved lately. It could be harmless or it could be something bad.
Have you noticed if it's soft or hard, moveable or not?
Given my constant anxiety when it comes to my pets, and given my recent tremendous experience, I would suggest you to have it checked as soon as possible.

I honestly never noticed. I feel like it's always been there, but some reason I seemed to notice it today. I never really looked in his mouth. I didn't touch it because he didn't let me (he didn't like it when I touched his mouth over all).
