Dear catsiters,

Please help me find out what's the color and pattern of this kitten called. At first, I thought she's bw-bicolor, but then I noticed her markings around eyes and now I'm confused. 😄 Is she a very dark black tabby, propably with spotted pattern so it's harder to see in her longish fur? Or is the white on her cheeks just about that high so it's possible to see her tabby pattern? Torbie with white with very liitle of red? As you might notice, I'm very keen on finding out her coloring. 😆

She has tad lighter reddish-brown patch on her neck, and maybe a bit of brownish-black fur on her cheeks. Thanks!

My guess kitten IS bw bicolor, the tabby markings you almost see are almost surely ghost stripes... Such is easier to see on solid colored kittens.

Beautiful cats 😁 The mom, or older cat looks like a dlh calico or torbie with high white, and the kitten looks like a dlh black/white bicolor to me. I don't see any red, but it could be rusting maybe or maybe she is really a calico too. The also both have the look of forest cats, in particular nfc, the mom especially, like my Sybil, profile pic, who actually had a rounder face and more Siberianish.

Good catch! Momma with the triangularish face looks much NFC-alike. Also this pattern of bi-color is common with NFC. IF she is visibly biggish, we may even see this alikeness as proven.

Thanks! Good to know the "tabby eyeliner" is propably ghost marking, I've never seen such earlier (w/ bicolors).

They are not related, but actually the older cat is purebred NFC from finnish cattery. 😄 Good catch you both! In her papers she's marked as a "tortie tabby bicolor" NFO F 03 22. Kitten is a rescue, so probably no breeds in her :)

Cool! I thought she had to have at least some nfc in her, my Syb at times looked more angular too and was a gorgeous calico, very floofy in winter especially and the most athletic and graceful cat ever prolly. She could jump 4-5 feet straight up like a helicopter and land silently on a dresser. I will look for other pics of her to post.. she loved running in snow for hours, where this pic was taken one day, me and my calico and tortie girls in the snow with my camera. I read also that nfc females can be smaller, 8 pounds or so and up to 14 or so. A FB friend has a pb nfc in Norway and she is similar to Sybil with a little bit rounder face and eyes, and she has fuller floof as a pb. She loves to run around on a farm. Syb was a mix, but had all the characteristics. After Sybil passed in 2018 a pb calico nfc was listed for adoption on a site from a breeder who died. I wanted to get her but she was in CA. Your calico/tortie/torbie girl's expression reminds me of Sybil with the smile 😁

Here is a link on specific bicolor patterns, the kitten, who is a beauty looks like maybe mask and mantel pattern. As for spots etc. it can be harder to see any patterns and sometimes colors in longhair cats especially on their body, My Zena is a dlh bicolor black white tuxedo, he has some areas that look brownish and gray at times. He is mostly black. Oddly his skin is very white but he is not a smoke etc. I love the pic of your kitten sleeping, she is so precious and it looks like they get a long well too.
