An expensive and annoying afternoon ! My internet has been cutting out periodically for a minute or two for the last few weeks but this afternoon it went out and wouldn’t come back. I rebooted it, still out. I thought perhaps it was the surge protector power strip, dug around in the closet and found another, unplugged everything and plugged it into the newly found one and it was totally dead. Replugged everything back into the old strip and still no internet. Decided to check the Xfinity app on my Iphone to see if there was an internet outage, but app said I needed to update it before I could use it. However I couldn’t update because the app needed an higher IOS version than what can apparently be put on my Iphone 7. So, after all of this, here is what I need.

1. A new Iphone . I have been waiting for a sign it was time to upgrade and today was it
2. A new surge protector power strip
3. Worst case a new modem.

Do you have an Xfinity modem? We had issues with their modems. They give you used modems a lot. They replaced our three times in three months. We just got tired of it a bought our own modem. If I could drop them entirely I would, but there is not another company that comes out here. They charged us a ton for cable even basic (over $ 200 a month) we dumped them for cable , in favor of streaming for less then half the price. They also like to play games with their pricing.

Yes, their modem and I have only had it a few months. I was just a nightmare to get set up and required about an hour on the phone with a representative that I couldn’t understand. I think I will cry if I have to replace it again.

We replaced our modem last winter with a Nighthawk. I didn’t already have the apps on my phone and half my property barely receives a cell signal so I depend on wifi assist with calls and stuff. I was standing in the snow on the other side of the yard trying to download both the xfinity and nighhawk apps. Once I did it was ok; but it was a little process.

We started buying our own equipment a while back after having some issues and discovering the comcast stuff we had was super outdated (techs words) and DH realized we had paid for that equipment several times over in rental fees. Considering we use the internet for school; we need reliable equipment!

We had Spectrum for internet only, and owned our own router, but we got tired of paying almost $100 a month for that. When a competitor came to town offering fiber optic service for considerably less, we signed up, but still bought our own router, only a newer one. We still use Consumers Cellular for our phones, however.

I thought I broke our coffee maker this morning but; thank God it seems to be ok now. I really didn't want to drive to Dunkin but I was getting emotional over coffee. :paperbag:

I'm still not quite sure what happened or if it was multiple things; but it was oozing coffee grounds out of everywhere. The pod had failed at the top seal and it took a toothpick to clean out everywhere the grounds went. When I pulled the pod out it started pouring from the bottom of it into my hand. (Only a tiny red spot burned; again, than you Lord; because it was HOT). I do think grounds must have gotten into the system some because the first time I tried to run water through to rinse it it came out all crazy. The next I was going to do a vinegar soak and it shut itself off! I decided to leave it a while and then it went through ok. After about 5 good rinses it didn't spit out any more grounds. Except from around the latch. Those might be coming a while because the paper towel and toothpick only reach so far... :rolleyes2:

And then I made myself a FABULOUS turkey/tomato/egg/cheese on rye breakfast sandwich with this giant beefsteak tomato DH brought home from a farm stand for me. It was messy and AMAZING. And now I have coffee to go with it.

I had issues that sounded like this and with some visits with xfinity and several chats... One of their techs said to plug the modem directly into the WALL, not the surge protector. Some (or one) of the other things plugged into the surge protector was causing the modem to short out or whathaveyou. So I did that - kept everything else on the surge protector, plugged the modem directly into the wall... no issues since!

MoochNNoodles MoochNNoodles did you by mistake reuse a pod i did that a few times on my kuerig and made a huge mess of grounds all over
Nope it was a new pod from a new variety pack I just got this week to try some different brands. I ended up with a different one and it doesn't smell nearly as good as what went all over. :disappointed: Caffeine is caffeine though. :paperbag::lol:

Grumpy has been more approachable lately, for whatever reason. Usually, when I put his wet food out for him, he retreats to the edge of the deck- about ten feet away- until I go back inside and he hears the latch click. This morning, he practically had his face in the dish before I had set it down for him. I always have made it a point to talk to him whenever I see him, and just maybe, after something like nine years, it is having some effect. Still, I don't ever see him as an indoor cat. There is a reason I named him Grumpy.

I SO want Grumpy to realize the joys of creature comforts! How old is he? I realize this will never happen but all the same those Eastern Winters…how does he endure ‘em? Would love a recent photo.

I believe him to be nine or ten years old, but that's just a guess. He normally lives in a neighbor's garage, although from time to time he uses the house I built for him that is located on our deck. I also built a covered feeding station that is large enough that he can get inside in foul weather, and in cold weather he has access to a heated water bowl. So, he has food, water, and shelter readily available, he just chooses to go his own way. I have known people like that too, over the years.
One other thing: in the winter, I will use the snowblower to clear a path from the back fence to the deck so he doesn't have to wade through snow to get to his food.

I'm glad there's people out there dedicated as you to helping outdoor cats :) !

Michele was watching the early news when an item came up about disposable razors, and all the plastic that they add to landfills. I thought it hilarious when they showed one where you had to unscrew the handle to change the blade. Hilarious, because my father was using just such a razor 70-some years ago. As for myself, I have been using the same double edge razor since 1969. For a while, it was hard to get the blades, as some stores stopped carrying them, but that's getting better now. I guess it's true about each generation having to relearn the things that previous generations took as a given. Everything old is new again.
