I just ordered a second 18" fan, this one for my bedroom. I had gotten one for the living room, and cannot believe the difference two inches makes! I actually think I'll be able to bump my thermostat up two degrees once it gets here, and save a little money on power this summer!
When we bought our house, there was a ceiling fan in the dining room. Since then, we have put another in the living room (wiring that one was a real pain) and a third one in the bedroom, as there is no outlet for heat or a/c. Yep, they really make a difference.

I had two ceiling fans put in the house not long after I moved here - one in the living room and one in my bedroom. They just make a huge difference in comfort level.

I am still upset over the black walnut tree!

I have a concussion resulting from a fall. My right leg gives out sometimes since my recent lateral laminectomy. I fell twice, and the second fall was on the ceramic kitchen floor and bad. I went on a minor shopping trip with a friend and almost got sick in the store. I didn't realize how much pain I was in until I went out in the heat.

The good news, however, is that a black bear was seen in Catawba County, near where I went to high school. I love bears! I just hope it didn't wander down from the mountains because it was hungry. I hope he is okay and that no evil befalls him.

South Florida- ceiling fans are as standard as light fixtures are anyplace else- I've noticed new bldgs are looking more n more like someplace in NYC with recessed lighting and no fans plus they keep getting more and more stories high.....
They'll realize it's not NY when the high electric summer bills are year round and when a hurricane

From the fall you had just a couple of weeks ago? Quite a few years ago, a black bear 'invaded' the suburbs around Buffalo. It was seen off and on for more than a week before wandering off to wherever. It is possible that Mama Bear kicked her grown cub out, and now it's looking for a suitable area to call its own. Once, bears were confined, more or less, to those counties bordering Pennsylvania, but their territory has been expanding as the bear population has been increasing, and they have been seen in all the counties of WNY.

Yes, people do stupid things where bears are concerned. An uncle had a lakeside cabin in the Adirondacks, and back in the 60s we would spend a week there during the summer. One of the sources of 'entertainment' was going to the town dump near sunset to watch the bears come out. One time, some idiot tried to put his kid on the back of one so he could get a picture of it. Eventually, the town fenced off the dump, with a locked gate to keep people out. I think that was a demonstration of the Disney Effect, where they think that all animals are friendly.......except that that ain't necessarily so. Black bears are documented to have killed and eaten people. In New Jersey, one broke into an elderly woman's home and killed her some years ago.

Yep- black bears are no joke- when we used to trailer to PA to trail ride in the woods wed see many- slowly back away and then let er rip,get outta dodge fast---- one time a huge mama bear grabbed one of the horses from behind, she was getting kicked real good but it was only making her madder .... we didn't want to shoot her because of the cubs so we all charged the bear to run her off - that is the willing horses, some were terrified

People do indeed do the stupidest things- what happened to the kid that the parent was offering the bear as a sacrificial lamb?

Oh,probably wondering how the horse was after the bear attack- many sutures ,bad bites bit fortunately no permanent or debilitating injuries- hindquarters eventually healed and she had many scars, thank God the bear didn't bite her legs.....she was a brave little mare

Fortunately for the idiot and his kid, the bear backed off. It was a big one, too- I would guesstimate around 250-300 pounds- big enough to ruin that guy's whole day if it was so inclined.

Whats a polite way to tell people to mind their own business. I mean like even family. :rolleyes2:

I said redirect when possible but sometimes that's difficult to do. I'd like to say posting a vague, passive-aggressive statement on Facebook from time to time is not a bad idea either. But it seems like the people who need to hear it don't get it. :rolleyes2:

If you want polite, don't ask me, as I don't do polite when it comes to people interjecting themselves into my business. In fact, I can get downright hostile. Verbally, anyway.

I have come to the conclusion that Miss Eleanor is trying to kill me. How so, you might ask? Every- and I do mean EVERY- morning, as I start to go down the stairs, she will rush to get in front of me, and just as I'm about to take that first step down, she will stretch across the top step and start sharpening her claws on the carpet, then look up at me as if to say "What; is there a problem here?"
