What is on my mind this week is wondering why drivers think that multiple signs that state Road Closed with no outlet actually are trying to accomplish by continuing to drive on.

I live on a two lane State Route that sees a lot of vehicle traffic including semi-trucks. The county is replacing the under the road culvert pipes on my road, they have had signs posted the road will be closed to through traffic for 5 days and this week they added additional LARGE signs that the road is closed and posted the detour signs for traffic to follow.

And still vehicles and semi-trucks aren't paying attention to the signs. They drive almost all the way up to the construction zone and then need to take turns backing into someone's driveway to turn around and then get all huffy because they are delayed. The bigger problem is the semi trucks as they have to back up over 500 feet before they can find a driveway that their truck is able to use to turn around.

Additionally, the road will reopen for the weekend and then this process will repeat again for the next 3 weeks, closed for 5 days for each culvert pipe they replace, open for weekend traffic and then closed again during the next week.

Are people just oblivious to road closed and detour signs? Are they hoping they are the lucky ones to be able to get through? Do they think they are Evil Knievel and will be able to jump over an eight food trench running the width of the road surface?

That's what's on my mind today and probably for the next few weeks so my rant is over. I do wave at the people going by though when I'm in the front yard, both coming and going back.
I live in a neighborhood with a barely two lane road that curves like a drift racer’s dream (or nightmare) and yet at least twice a month I see an eighteen wheeler flying through my backroads despite the signs. Bonus points when they have all those “dangerous gas“ signs all over them 💀 You would think needing to slam your breaks on a steep incline to turn onto a tiny road would hint to them that this is not a road for folks that don’t live around these parts LOL

Not that going through town doesn’t have it’s own absurdity. Like a certain one way road that only has a sign at one end of it so if you turn onto it halfway down you don’t know that it’s not two lanes (it’s wide enough to be). Didn’t know I moved to the small town version of San Francisco where you have to have a map just to figure out how to get around all the one way roads.

Rainy day jobs, especially the one I have been postponing. Probably the most gutting thing you have to do after losing a pet is to pack up all of their toys. Maybe because she didn’t have any or very few her first year of life, Willow loved her toys fiercely to the very end. I saved a few that Lola liked, put away a small bag just in case there is a future cat and tossed the rest.

I am hoping to conquer my rainy day project of my bedroom curtains next week when its hot. I basically need to sew tab backs on the blackout liners and then attach the snaps to the liner and curtains. It needs to be done in 1 day though because with the heat and summer sun; I will NEED my curtains up! I’ve put this off a long time now. I’m not the best seamstress so it takes a lot of thought and more careful planning.

Can you drape a blanket over the curtain rod or something in case you don't finish in a day-I too am not a good seamstress ( or even semi good, lol) so I'm just thinking of the added stress of limited time allottments ,I know how the pressure of not enough time usually causes me to make even more mistakes if it's something Im not really good at or familiar with doing

Not seamstress approved but have you considered just safety pinning the black fabric to the curtain? It could be pinned to the backside of the curtain at the top behind the rod so it wouldn’t be visible at all from the front.

I am sorely tempted. The fabric of the curtains is a little delicate feeling to me. I like the idea of snaps so I can separate them to wash too. Pins would also do the trick with that. The blackout liner only has a pocket for a rod or a thing to use those drapery hook pins. My bestie could probably do everything in an hour; even though she doesn’t sew curtains. And id love to give her the work. I just couldn’t deal with the bright or hot bedroom and DH would absolutely complain. I’ll have to see if we have anything that we could use in place of it. Its a big double window set. Maybe i could do one panel each day if it goes long. I’m a little nervous my sewing machine needs oiling/maintenance too. I bet bestie could help with that too though.

Another relatively easy option is to do a double rod, with blackouts in back, curtains in front.

That’s kind of what i have now. I have sheers to hang still in the packaging too. I would have found darker curtains to start; but these match the new bedding and shower curtain I got. I do like the color and look too.

DH wants to paint the bathroom later this summer. Maybe the bedroom will get done too.

Gosh I didn’t know they still make Lava soap. My grandpa always had a bar in the little half-bath off his workshop in the basement. His shaving supplies were also in there. That bathroom still smells like him even though he’s been gone over 10 years.
As long as there are people who get their hands dirty, there will always be a demand for Lava.

The funny thing is I don’t associate it with my dad or stepdad at all. Both are/were aircraft mechanics by trade and auto mechanics by hobby. The smell or oil and jet fuel I know well; but I don’t remember having lava soap at home. Just my grandparents. :dunno: Never really thought about that before now.

My favorite employee group was the aircraft mechanics.

For my own bedroom which faces South ( that is mighty hot n bright in South Florida)I made a shade behind my verticals and used a plastic felt backed tablecloth because of the color and texture ( matches the verticals, lol)

Anyway I started out with my hot glue gun and finished with two sided hem tape which has held up in machine washing and is still in tact after 6 yrs!The hot glue did not do as well nor did a fabric glue I tried ---- that tape for hems makes life very easy ,ever try it? Beats sewing!

The only bar soap I use is Lava, and I use one of those green Scotch-brite pads to scrub with, but my skin pretty much resembles leather anyway, so it's no big deal.
My Dad used use Comet scouring powder - he had leather hands too, more like a gator skin .The moment he came in from work he'd scrub up to his elbows with that Comet like a surgeon - from 3pm until morning he was always meticulously clean and well groomed

I just added hem tape to my cart.

I really like these blackout curtains I found on Amazon. They don’t have that heavy stiff feel and they come in nice colors. They feel smooth too. DS has them in green and his room stays super dark! DD has them in light pink so its not as dark; but still very different from when you open the curtains. I chose the liner version in dark gray and it’s wonderful. DH has them under control now; but when he was having nauseating migraines we wanted it dark! He was on night shift in the military for a while. Our old house had window tint, a roller shade, dark curtains…the works. Hes way more sensitive to light than I am. But i do appreciate it more now.

I just ordered a second 18" fan, this one for my bedroom. I had gotten one for the living room, and cannot believe the difference two inches makes! I actually think I'll be able to bump my thermostat up two degrees once it gets here, and save a little money on power this summer!
