My stepdad has a milestone birthday coming up so I’m trying to come up with a good gift idea.

They recently got rid of so much of their possessions with moving twice that I’m not sure what to get him anymore. He is a big Snoopy/Flying Ace/Joe Cool fan. I found him a vintage Flying Ace toy for his birthday several years ago. Something that he might have had or wanted as a child. I don’t know how to top that. And apparently my stepsiblings are planning to come so this is definitely a “bigger” occasion.

He loves Cabelas and movies and cars; but gift cards seem too impersonal for a milestone birthday. He has his private pilot’s license and I’ve done that kind of gift too.

I did a custom frosted beer glass for my dad when he retired. But my stepdad isn’t as into that kind of thing. Its not likely that I will suddenly come into enough cash to buy him a 68 Camero…soo…. :dunno:

Is there a Cabela's nearby? Maybe you and your stepsiblings could get together, pool your resources, and take him there to pick out what he wants, then split the cost.......provided it isn't a new bass boat.

Thankfully he’s not a fisherman. All his other hobbies are expensive enough. The 5 of us live in 5 different states. The nearest Cabelas is about an hour or so away. Close enough but not local. Its a good guarantee he will find something enjoyable there though. Because of his job lately we can’t do an “experience” type gift. Or maybe we can but something with an open date; not planned to the day.

Sometimes I really just love my husband. I was sitting here stewing over a group text from my mom that no one is replying to (The daughters, stepdaughter, and DIL.) because she’s having trouble with planning a party and his time off. We’ve had a lot on our plate that my mother isn’t even aware of. She’s needed us a lot without knowing that (and she won’t; because explaining is the last thing I want to do…). I’ve been short on patience (which shes seen). So honestly theres just no room to add to my plate. So stewing and internal guilt it is…he just looked at me and said “Let your mom and ___ figure it out.” What a revolutionary concept. I started laughing and I could have cried. Sometimes you just need to hear you don’t have to carry everyone. Still might go have a cry though. 🤪

I still miss my old '68 Mustang. GT, fastback, Candy Apple red, 302 with a 4-barrel carb and dual exhaust, stick shift, and power nothing- neither steering nor brakes. It was a ball to drive, and it was sneaky fast. Not necessarily on a straight, but in the curves? A guy tried to race me on a twisty road once. He had an SS396 Chevelle, and while he could catch me on the short straights, I could run away from him on the many sharp curves. However, I've had my sporty car phase, and that was long, long ago, so I'll leave that to the younger set, and leave the past to the past.

I’m doing a chronological read through the Bible this year and read those verses earlier this week. It was like an instant trigger. At first it was alternating with an old Sunday school song “His banner over me is Love…” I think I can blame that one on preparing for my nieces wedding. But sometimes I get a song in my head like that because theres a line I need to hear. Once I figure it out; it stops. But I don’t know that’s the case with this one. :dunno:
