So your going for a lower gear ratio for better fuel efficiency? You'll have to go to a larger tire because you'll have less torque which of course means slower acceleration- is that what you desire?

I'm the opposite ,I use a higher gear ratio for more torque and faster acceleration( in a posi traction differential naturally) and my fuel efficiency- lol, well I don't use the car much but I don't think anyone drives a Mustang thinking they'll get good gas mileage, right?

I just realized this is the smiley thread! And I'm just chatting away with everyone!

So here's me🤦‍♀️
I’m installing a lower gear ratio (changing from 4.10 to 4.88) to increase torque for better performance with larger tires on and off road. I have a 2012 Wrangler Rubicon that is my daily driver and my trail rig. We live in Utah which has some of the best and most scenic off-road trails in the nation. My Jeep (Gypsy) is currently equipped with 35 inch tires. After this set wears out, I’ll install 37s. The larger diameter will improve the ability to crawl over boulders and climb ledges.

For who don’t know, the higher the ratio number, the lower the gear and the greater the mechanical advantage. The number represents the gear ratio. 4.10 is short hand for 4.10:1 and 4.88 is short for 4.88:1.

What that means is, with 4.10s, the pinion gear (the axle input gear) turns 4.1 times to turn the ring gears once. The ring gear turns the axle shafts which in turn, drives the wheels. The pinion of a 4.88 gear set turns 4.88 times to rotate the ring gear once. The result is, the 4.88s have more torque to turn larger, heavier tires to keep the engine from bogging.

With the same size tires, lower gears give quicker acceleration and are better for towing and hauling. They also better slow speed control on the trail without bogging the engine.

What year Mustang do you have? I love Mustangs!

PS- my Jeep makes me smile, so it’s my emoticon for today. Let’s see a photo of your Stang. It can be your emoticon!

I think 88s are great fun for the street .. when I was a kid( Big block Camaro) I threw in 513's..... It was too much, especially with a big block putting me at a steady 6000rpms just to flow with the traffic at 45mph- rofl.... 🫣😂

How could anyone not love the Cowardly Lion? I loved him too but for some reason I can't explain my favorite character was the Tin Man. And I always felt no one could sing Somewhere Over the Rainbow like Judy Garland. She was between 16 - 17 yrs. old when she starred in the movie.

I have quite an collection of Judy Garland books, photos and other things- actually,I was really sent over the moon when she sang in A Star is Born
Of course I loved "Dorothy" as a little girl but fell in love with Judy a little older
