Hi Everyone,

We just rescued two little kittens. They were described to us as a Bombay and Russian Blue. What do you all think? Thank you for your help!
They're so cute!

Where did you get them? Are they from registered breeders of Bombays and Russian Blues and/or did they come with pedigree papers?

If not, they were either described that way because (1) it's more exciting than saying domestic shorthair/longhair in blue and black, (2) someone was trying to make money off of them -- but you said they were rescued, so that's likely not true in this case, or (3) the person/organization you got them from doesn't realize that those are rare breeds that are unlikely to turn up in shelters and that the coloring of these kitties is common in the domestic cat population.

Without papers, the gray one is a blue domestic longhair, and the other is a black domestic shorthair.

Congratulations, by the way!

Russian Blues don't come in longhair. Sometimes people describe any blue cat as a "Russian Blue" because they think that is simply the name of the color. They may have thought "Bombay" simply means a shorthaired black cat, too... Were these kittens from the same litter?

Thank you everyone! We love them the same regardless of their breed or type. We were told they are sisters from the same litter. My wife and I were just curious if there is anything special to look out for or watch that might be know for a specific breed.

If they came from the same litter, we can be pretty sure they are both domestics without ancestry from either breed. Probably those breed names were just being used to describe their colors. Enjoy your cute babies! :)

90-95% of cats are no particular breed, so don't worry, there's nothing you need to know except to love them to bits!
