if I would choose to follow another member? For example, if I am offline, but have requested to receive an email alert notification to any threads/posts I am currently watching, does that automatically apply to the threads/posts/ - EVEN BRAND NEW ONES - that the member I am following posts?

Also, if a person I am following would check my Profile Page, would I be alerted to that as well?

    Thanks!

@FeebysOwner, if you click on your username and in the drop down menu, go into Preferences and tick whichever box you want to have email notifications sent to you.

Go to Alert Preferences, same drop down menu, or hover your mouse over the Alerts icon, a drop down menu will appear and there's an option that says Alert Preferences, click on it, tick whichever box you want to be alerted for.
Any alerts will just appear showing in numbers in the Alerts Icon on the top right hand corner of the site's menu bar.

The way to know that if you are linked to that thread is to check if it's a Watched Thread which is shown on the top right of the thread as Unwatch Thread meaning that you are subscribed to that thread or has made a reply to it or it was started by you.

Not sure if this thread is helpful to you and if the issue has been resolved :-

I don't think you'll be alerted if anyone check your Profile page.

So, the Alert notifications that apply in general to watched threads, posts, purraises also apply to someone whom you are following? Wasn't sure, but knew I could not find Alerts specifically related to when you are following someone.

The only fallacy in that is there is no Alert in the general categories that would apply to receiving a notification for brand new threads. So, when you follow someone that automatically means you would receive an email notification about any new thread started by that person you are following?

I'm just going to reply, as I remember I asked about this too, when the site platform changed a few years ago... CvP (or now known by username "TCSdev", I guess?) said that getting notifications of when people you Follow make comments doesn't work with XenForo (or, at least, it didn't two years ago).

You can Follow or Unfollow people, but all that happens is that --provided the person you Follow has their online status set up as visible to others-- their little avatar photo shows up in this area on the site:

    Screen Shot 2019-04-12 at 11.23.41 AM.png

This just essentially lets you know (if they have toggled the "show your online status" choice in the Privacy section) that they are online at the same time as you. You don't get any Alerts when they make comments.

If you wanted to and would find this helpful, you could test this by following me and see what happens, and then unfollow when you're satisfied with what you're seeing :)
    I'll double-check how I have things set up, I assume I'm visible...

Thanks. I still might do that, but if I do I'll let you know - uh, yeah, sorry, you will know!! (But, I will still tell you if I am going to do it!). LOL.

Anyway, I asked another member who is following me, and they said they do NOT get any alerts on anything I do, new threads, existing threads, posts, or purraises They only get what they are directly involved with, either their own thread, responses they have posted and then beyond in those threads because they have participated, and/or purraises for either. Apparently, nothing directly related to the 'following' concept. So, other than to let someone know you appreciate them enough to follow them, the feature doesn't do much of anything else, as far as I can tell so far!

Those items that you've ticked and have email notifications will come into your mail box and the rest will come in as an alert together with new threads or posts whether you are or not subscribed to in the Alerts icon. This is what I'm getting.

    Hello there!

To answer your question: You wouldn't be alerted if the user checks your profile. If you're following someone you would receive notifications only to threads that user creates, not replies to, unless it is a thread that the you are watching or already following.

I follow a lot of people but I have never gotten any alerts or notifications whenever any one of them has created a thread. :confused2:

    Hi there! :hellocomputer:

I probably should of clarified this...You can enable this by going to your followed users and clicking on Alert Notifications. You can set to be alerted from to New Thread Post or Post Reply.

This is good to know. I do see the Alert Preferences alongside each of the members I follow (along with unfollow button) -- but when I click on the Alert Preferences button, all I get is this:

    Screen Shot 2019-04-15 at 11.35.40 AM.png

Where may I toggle or set any alerts for posts or threads? :confused2:
Thanks for your help on this!

    ---
edit: could other members try this out (in your own 'people you follow' sections) and see if they also get that brief pop-up box I've shown, with no toggle options for setting alerts?? Is it just me that gets that truncated box? Or maybe admins need to fix something so that we can choose whether or not to receive 'follow alerts'?

again, thanks for any help on this! :)

    Hi Again! :hellocomputer:

So a deep dive was done on this issue! and we found that global alert notifications weren't set up properly. The issue has been resolved and you should be able to see what I was trying to show above. :yess:

Thanks! I can see the Alert Preferences when following someone, as "Post New Thread", "Update New Status", and "Post Reply". What is "Update New Status" even mean?

Whew. I can answer this one. ;) If you go into your profile from the header across the top of the page, at the very bottom you will see an option for update status -

    status1.jpg

You've got 140 characters to put in a status -

    status2.jpg

If someone clicks on your profile, they can see it.
