I thought it would be fun to post weird, funny or obscure words and their meanings. Join in and let's all increase our vocabulary with words where people will think we're really smart or possibly just crazy!

I'll start with one that maybe some of you may know, simply because of our common love.

1) Ailurophile

Definition: A cat lover.

This next one just makes me laugh. I can't believe there is word for this!

2) Krukolibidinous

Definition: Looking at someone’s crotch.
Example in a sentence: I've stopped going to male ballets, as I can't control how krukolibidinous I am.

And this last one I am definitely guilty of.....often.:rolleyes2:

3) Cancatervate

Definition: Heaping things into a pile.
Example in a sentence: Please tidy up properly ; don't just cancatervate everything!

Got any good words to add?

Juxtaposition - place things side by side

Syzygy - the alignment of three celestial objects

Cacophony - loud, obnoxious noise

Onomatopea - words that sound like the things which they describe, for example 'hiss' sounds like a snake

Obfuscate - to make something less clear and harder to understand, especially intentionally

Supernumerary - exceeding the usual, stated, or prescribed number

Penultimate (often misued) - the second to last thing in a series (it has nothing to do with the ultimate or best)

Cleave - not uncommon, but the only word in the English language that has two meanings, each the opposite of the other: to stick together and to split apart.

I often visit cemeteries when I travel. I love the history, and the mystery of people's lives--you wonder what a certain inscription on a tombstone means. They're usually also such beautiful and peaceful places.

I didn't know until recently there was a word for that:

taphophile, also known as 'tombstone tourists.'
