So everything has been going good and my kitty lately but today she went to head to the restroom/litter box while I was standing in the kitchen and I didn't think anything of it and was messing around with some sacks and she turned around and went straight back to me to see what I was doing. She didn't go to the bathroom at all. She didn't even go into the box, she literally just headed to the box then turned around and sat down to look at what I was doing. I had to take her to the litter box to pee after that and she did pee for me, it was a good amount and there was no straining, no blood and she didn't make any distress sounds.

I'm thinking maybe she got distracted? Because at this time my husband just got home as well and we were both in the kitchen and her litter box is in the other room and it's sort of close by where we were so maybe she heard me messing with some sacks and thought I was getting her a treat?

She's never done this before BUT she is very shy with going to the bathroom and sometimes if she sees me looking/glancing at her while she's doing business she will stop what she's doing but then continue.

She's eating and drinking just fine, everything is normal but I just thought it would get an opinion on what happened. Do you guys think she was just distracted?

Hi. Are you sure she was even headed specifically to the litter box? I guess I would just keep an eye on her for more occasions like this one where you are sure she is going to the litter box and then stops to redirect her attention elsewhere. Odds are it doesn't mean anything but just that. I do think cats can hold their urine for a bit if something more interesting draws their attention.

I'm pretty sure she was headed there because she went into the room where the box was but then walked back out. I think she just did it again just now actually where she went to the location but I just now checked and theres nothing in the box.

I will forsure keep an eye on it for the rest of the night. Thank you for the response it eased my mind a little bit. She also threw up her food a bit ago with a a decent sized hairball, poor thing.

I just had mine do this same thing today twice. Went to the litter box and walked in/out, and even walked in and squatted and nothing really came out. We just ended 6 days of Clavamox for a suspected respiratory infection so there's no UTI. I was on alert to run to the emergency vet in case of a blockage but then at 4PM he peed normally.

He's 19 with CKD, on prednisolone every other day for IBD and allergies and he drinks a LOT. Not being able to pee would be an emergency for sure with how much he drinks.

Not sure about this behavior though and why he would go in there twice and walk in/out and even squat and not do anything, then later pee normally. No vocalizing or pain or anything like a UTI. Today has been rough for the cat nursing home manager....:stars:
